Was waiting for this movie for months and rn I just finished watching it, would 101% recommend it. It's heartbreaking, beautiful and romantic every moment is so beautiful and enjoyable but the ending broke my heart knowing it's based on true story is just even more painful :( Y'all need to watch this masterpiece.

as a russian, i felt something inexplicable when i watched this film. i had never before seen a movie that tells a story of my lgbt+ compatriots so beautifully and realistically. because of that gay propaganda law, nothing like this gets filmed here and i am just very grateful for the people who decided to share sergey fetisov's story with the world
it's incrediably sad that in the recent history of my country no laws against homosexuality existed only between 1993 and 2013. i really hate how it could've gotten way better if it were not for that "propaganda" ban in 2013. still, i hope it will get better one day and i hope more stories like this get public attention

This movie has such sad beauty. Every take in the movie has an aesthetic that's captured perfectly by the actors. The ending just- it broke my heart, though it was predictable. This movie is a masterpiece. The Oscars committee needs to acknowledge this movie.

The scene where Roman takes Sergey to the rehearsal of "The Firebird" ballet shows just how much Roman is in love with Sergey. The little smile to himself when he sees how Sergey reacts to the ballet, says it all. He is so happy to see that he has made Sergey happy. He adores Sergey, and bringing him to the ballet was a special gift just for him. More than kisses and sex, that shows how much Roman truly loves Sergey. When you really love someone, you just want to make them happy.

I've been watching this like 4 times 4 nights but I still can't move on from it. There's no words can describe this connection that I have with this film. I mean it when I say this, this film will forever be a part of me that I can never let go of. These characters (sergey & roman) just have a special place in my heart. The fact that this film was based on true story explains why we are so connected with them, I don't how but there's just this feeling where I can feel what they felt. Their beautiful story and the ending just broke my heart to thousand pieces. Everytime I remember all those little moments they had with each other my body just felt so weak, I cried a lot, till it hurts my chest because we know it didn't last forever, and that makes those moments even more precious. Tbh, it's been days and I still burst into tears. Sometimes I just wish I could be there, give them a hug cuz I love them too much

this story gave birth to 4 unhappy people: Roman tortured himself, his wife's heart is broken, their son has to grow up without a father, and Sergey will never be happy w/out Roman, thats what we see when two people are not allowed to love each other
Roman really thought that he could force himself to live like others and pretend he loves his wife.

It's been 2 months but I still can't get through a single day without thinking of sergey & roman. Their story really attached to me, like I have this weird special bond with the film. It all became too real to me

It touched my heart to see the scenes and lgbtq+ flow of the film. I find it overwhelming. It was beautifully filmed and instant classic. I find it is hard to digest what was going through towards the ending. However, it is a good reminder that you must seize the moment before it go away. If you let things slipping by; be prepare at risk and price. Sadly, even risking that you would lost it forever and never find it back again.

In the actual novel, Roman didn’t die going to war in Afghanistan. Yet, I read it but couldn’t tell if he committed suicide, died to sickness, or in a fire as translating the original text made it harder for me to understand. Does anyone knows?

A real love triangle here between Sergey, Roman and the sky. Roman knows that even rumors are enough to stop him from flying, that's why he gets married. When Sergey tells him let's run away to Sweden, Roman replies that he is an officer, he cannot leave his homeland, but in fact he cannot leave flying, he knows that there are no chanses in the world that a military defector will be able to fly on a plane again in the another country. And when his wife finds out that he is gay, he saves himself by running away again to his planes. And he dies during the flight on the war. He chose who he wants to be with most of all - and it's the sky.
If Sergey is a firebird that burned out in love with Roman and was able to be reborn from the ashes to the new life, then Roman is a firebird that could only burn out from the impossibility of choosing between the work you love and the person you love.
