If you buy your Railcard with Trip, you can save even more🎉
ОтветитьI don't know if anyone noticed, TrainPal has discounts for new comers!! Enjoy the coupons so far lol.
ОтветитьCanadians have chip and pin credit and debit cards.
ОтветитьAvoiding diarrhea is a perfectly good reason to not eat something wtf is he talking about
ОтветитьTraveling humbles me : The world is bigger than where I live and where I live has almost 40 million folks in my state .
ОтветитьGreat video! May I also add a tip on getting cash in Europe - firstly, bank ATMs are the way to go in Europe. But I found such a variety in fees charge - like some charge absolutely no ATM fees to foreign cards holders and some charge ridiculously high fees. So its an important cost consideration when travelling there. Found an app for this - ATM Fee Saver - it gives a list of free and lower fee ATMs along with their withdrawal limits. Boy, it was soo helpful! landed up saving so much on ATM fees. Worth adding to your list, it will help a lot of international travellers!
ОтветитьIt is not Europe, only the West and Mediterranean. Countries in Eastern Europe and the Balkans for example, were not visited at all. Rick, you can see, you are a real American.
ОтветитьSteves is the reason I’ve gone to Europe. Thank you for showing me the beauty of European travel. I’m hooked . Been to France, Spain, Czech Republic, Hungary and will be heading to Italy soon 😊

ОтветитьI agree with Rick about not worrying about the cost of gas when renting a car in Europe. We were in the UK in August 2022 and the price of gas was pretty high compared to what I was used to in the States and the fuel efficiency of the car made driving a pleasure. Super economical and distances were nothing compared to being in the States. Loved driving in the UK and Iceland.
ОтветитьMy husband and I have never gone on a big group Europe tour. We go on our own and do what we want when we want. We have been to Europe 3 times now and just love it. If we want to see something special that is farther away then we go on single day small group tours. From Paris in 2017 we did a full day tour to Mont Ste. Michel, absolutely amazing! There were only 8 tourist plus the guide. It was fantastic!
I do most of the planning for our trips, with hubby's input, and I find that doing all the research, finding that our of the way hotel, restaurants, unique hopping shops etc. is just as fun as going on the trip itself!! We are now planning a 3 month Eurail trip in Europe for the start of our retirement. We have never travelled fully by train before so it will be fun. And no we are not taking big suitcases, we are light travellers, we each now have a 36 litre rolling backpack and a good sized sling bag, we pack for 1 week. :)
Americans need to start understanding Kilometers. Forget all the conversions just learn something new that the rest of the world uses.
ОтветитьHe's the worst dressed man on the planet. Great, you're in one backpack but you look look like a bum. Awful clothes. I like to travel and dress well.
ОтветитьGreat tip to stay on the hop-on bus if you like your guide! We stayed the entire loop with Stan in NYC, and Stan was not having a good day, but he was SO FUNNY and so positive about it, his humour was awesome! We had some very rude tourists on our trip, and they could have ruined the whole day, but Stan not only wrangled them, but at the end, he encouraged us that if we were unhappy with the tour, to make sure we aimed our complaints to Blond Stan, because he'd hate brown haired Stan to get fired over anything he had said in the heat of the moment! Hilarious! I stayed on that bus the whole loop, past every fountain in NYC no matter how much I needed to get off to pee lol. A good tour guide will make your day!
ОтветитьOn the cell phone costs, I always just buy a local prepaid SIM. Cheaper and easy.
Ответить❤️❤️
ОтветитьGreat video. I've always used his guide books. They're the best. But, in the travelling light section, well, seriously, don't plan on finding specific items you need in stores as you go. Not fun wasting an afternoon shopping for something basic and good luck finding it.
ОтветитьDo you have Rick Steves tour of Tokyo, Kyoto, Japan?
ОтветитьHallo I'm from Indonesia 💕💕
ОтветитьAs a language major and person with extensive travel experience, especially in Europe, Rick Steves is not the all-knowing. Sorry. I really lost respect for him after this talk. As a kid, I recall the days before the internet when I would read his books. Now post-internet I will occasionally watch his programs, but no more after this talk. His rant against TripAdvisor as well as probably Google and the like was very angry. He asserted that any of the contributors had financial motives and gain. As a volunteer contributor, I can assure you that is completely false. I have wanted to explain particularly enjoyable and far less enjoyable experiences to help others. As a result, I have helped thousands with inexpensive trip ideas. For instance, people can save money in London by eating in Chinatown. Then he discussed how he and his people are experts in travel and culture. Well, language is culture, and I have openly laughed before at the program when he attempts the languages that I have studied. Of course, I have also resided in other places throughout the world and studied other parts of the culture. Thus, sometimes he and his experts are completely off the mark. Agreed, Bergen's tour is good among tours. However, if you know what you are doing, have studied, and have asked for help when needed, self-exploration is a hundred times better than any tour. Suffice to say, you cannot transplant culture into an expensive bus filled with tourists. In this case, think before you speak and avoid bias against competitors whenever possible. We were once fans and would like to remain that way. Travel and commentary are not exclusive to a party of one or two.
ОтветитьOh wow how things have changed.
Need updated video please (post-Covid).
Yes! Even the famous Rick Steves washes clothes on the hotel room sink while traveling. I'm in good company.
Ответитьare you seriously a travel expert ?
ОтветитьAs a Dutchman who's lived in several European countries for years and traveled across the rest of Europe through and through, I have to say that Rick knows very well what he's preaching. If you follow his tips, you will definitely get the best experiences from your trip, and save a few pennies on the way.
ОтветитьLeave your passport in the hotel safe and take a photo of it. Put your cash, credit card in your front pocket. Have a "drop wallet" with nothing in it of value or your personal info
ОтветитьThank You steve Iam Solo traveler i like the idea Joining affordable tour.
ОтветитьAnother important language tip: avoid idioms (ex., It’s as easy as pie) and phrasal verbs (ex., A problem always comes up.)
ОтветитьMy fav little pack for valuables is a flat “diagonal” over the shoulder bag. It accommodates passport, money, and smart phone much more comfortably.
ОтветитьWorried about foreign ATMs eating your card, or charging thousands? Get and use a DEBIT card ... it has on it only the money that you pre-load it with, and if you do internet banking you can re-load it as you go. P.S., your cards will work only in ATMs that participate in your group of cards, so check to see which group your card belongs to.
ОтветитьTwo more mobile phone things to check before going abroad, if you don’t want to be limited to WiFi: (1) roaming costs, and (2) band width.
ОтветитьDon’t use TripAdvisor because it ruins my business 🤓
ОтветитьI'm disowned. I guess so. Well. I got to be Felix Unger and feel sorry for myself.
ОтветитьNovember, November, November, NOVEMBER!!!!!!!!! I always travel to europe in November, very low prices for transport and hotels, no crowds and cool, not cold, weather.
ОтветитьHow can I get visa??
ОтветитьI want to to travel to Iran, what’s should I do
ОтветитьI’ve read several of his travel books. It helped us a lot , most places we utilized a private travel guide. Rio, during carnival days, Iguasso falls, Buenos Aires,
UAE, Turkey , London, Paris
etc.
I’m With Rick 👍 He’s On The Money 💸 And The Fun 🌎
ОтветитьNot taking advice from a man that thinks swedish is danish
ОтветитьToo boojie...
ОтветитьIt was great
ОтветитьMr. Steves still pronounced Nótre Dame; Nodder Daym not notr'dahm
ОтветитьLiving in the Netherlands, Scandinavian food is indeed great. We have international food in Amsterdam lucky though 😆
ОтветитьDear Mr.Steve, Does your Audio app include stull pictures of what it is telling you about. I rooms filled with paintings and statues one could become confused. Thank you, Keep the faith!
ОтветитьHe's terrible at choosing restaurants and food recommendations in general.
When he recommends buying "yoghurt and carrot sticks" at the store when in France, I just turn off the TV...
So many people turn up to this talk..... It's called Google cmon
