It would be super cool to see you do a video on the nuclear equipped. B-52’s. They are very interesting with their nuclear anti-ship missles

Is Cap pressing shift or something to salvo those at single targets? Didn’t realize you could do that.

When using Anti-Land Tomahawks as decoys it might be wise to stage (In offset Salvo orders) the delivery of the Land Strike (Say a set of 8 then 4) in front of a set of 12 Anti-Ship. Then Repeat to scale as necessary to saturate The Game AI treats the Airborne missiles the same so long as they are on track directly towards a valid ship. Anything off by more than 3-5 degree's of matched course will be seen as either spoofed/Jammed/failed and treated as a secondary target if there are others that do match the proper criteria. The same logic also applies to ships running anti-air ops for a fleet.

Questions. so lets just say one of the land based Toms did hit a ship. It wouldn't do anything? Why cant it track a ship, doesn't it still have some guidance capabilities?

Excellent attempt Cap...

I know it's probably a lot to manage ' but I would recommend adjusting your aim point for the land attack (as you've already pointed out) to intercept the enemy fleet based on that fleets course and speed ---

But also to fire the naval and land attack missiles together - so start with the nearer enemy screening ship - Fire the land attack at its intercept point - then fire the naval missiles at that target. Then move to the next screening ship, fire land then naval, and so on - so that your decoys are slightly ahead of your naval missiles, but interspersed throughout the entire strike???

You may have covered it in the past, prior to my subscribing to your channel. However, barring that, I would be very keen to see some scenarios with the JMSDF and/or the ROK Navy. Both Japan and South Korea have large, capable, and quite advanced navies and I am curious as to how that would play out. Perhaps versus the Russians and/or the Chinese PLAN.

Damn that was awesome. How much i love the Russian ships, but fluff me if you add a ticonderoga VLS or 2 as an escort then you will start getting a tad silly in terms of fire power... ... but goes to show what if Iowa got the VLS... and what of the Zumwalt class getting more longer strike capabilities with hypersonic weapons or even just longer ranged cruise missiles...

Interesting tactic using land variant tomahawks as decoys. You're right that it'd be prohibitively expensive, but I think that if they were faced with a "the missiles must get through" situation, an enterprising captain might at least consider the tactic. Plus if you think about it, if you don't sink the enemy fleet and they get your ships, those land tomahawks are gonna be sitting in their tubes at the bottom of the ocean anyways.

Does the vls Montana class battle ship have more or the same amount of missiles as the vls Iowa? She would have been bigger so theoretically would have had more vls, c wiz then an Iowa. Not sure about the model you have. If so possibly a final video in this series.

to anyone in the know; does Sea Power modding actually allow for new ship models, or nah? Because I don't think the Arleigh Burke would've made it into the base game, but I also heard that some mods (thinking of the Royal Navy and RAN ship stuff) are straight up unable to add their unique models and use US ones?

If a land attack tomahawk just happens to be fired at a perfect bearing to hit a ship, and that ship happens to be tall enough that the tomahawk would hit it....

Will that tomahawk actually hit the ship? Or would the terrain following feature of the land attack variant steer the missile away from the ship?

Interesting idea (probably difficult or not possible to do yet) Take famous/infamous naval battles and play as the defeated side. Can you develop a strategy in which you either win or don't fully lose.

Regarding the VLS, I do think Cap is right in saying that they would have been higher up. Also, the amount of VLS that the modder gave the Iowa is wayyy off, though the positions are correct. The only plans I've ever seen called for 96 cells (2 32-cell modules in the aft positions and 2 16-cell modules in the forward positions. Also, the forwardmost 5-inch turrets in either side were due to be replaced with 8-cell Mk. 26 box launchers for Sea Sparrow like on the Nimitz class, and the remaining 5"/38 turrets would have been replaced by twin 5"/54 turrets, as the Navy still had the plans for the turrets from the Montana class, and the rest of the 5-inch guns in the fleet were 5"/54 at that time. This would leave the hypothetical Iowa with 9 16"/50s (3x3), 8 5"/54 (4x2), 96 Mk. 41 VLS (2x32 and 2x16), 16 Sea Sparrows (2x8), 16 Harpoons (4x4) and CIWS.

According to the Command Modern Operations Database, you'd need about 48 missiles to overwhelm a Kirov, 40 for a Slava, and 16 each for the Sovremenny and Udaloy destroyers. So you're looking at about 150+ missiles to overwhelm the defences of this fleet, assuming the CMO numbers are somewhat accurate.

This is assuming the FC radars are on and the crew is alert, unlike what can happen IRL. Honestly I think IRL crews would get overwhelmed with the number of missiles incoming and mistakes would be made.

This also incidentally makes flights of B-1 bombers or B-52 bombers extremely scary, given the payloads they can carry. And they can get around much faster than ships, and generally can't be shot back at given the ranges at play with modern standoff munitions.

Try adding one VLS Ticonderoga. Not sure the game models it yet, but a Ticonderoga can take control of the fleet’s entire air defense. Additionally I would like to see a US surface action group take on a Soviet surface action group. US would probably include one cruiser or Arliegh Burke, and a couple of Improved Spruance DD’s and an additional couple of ASW platforms.

If the ship captain and task group commander, etc., up the chain figured that they would be involved in sea combat, the Iowa could have been loaded with more (or all) TASMs instead of TLAMs. (Though you did lay out a scenario in which, it seems, the commanders wouldn't have known what might happen.)
