tape sucks - don't use tape. I did not find using tape helpful at all. Maybe if I was doing this for living it might eventually pan out to be a way to make a nicer edge for the caulk - but I just do this once every couple of years and tape just adds more time to prep and ruins the caulking when you peel it off.
ОтветитьPlease don't tape! I did it, and it sucks. Caulk skins over so fast that by the time you remove the tape, you may have a very prominent ridge, and there's nothing you can do about it. The caulk is already drying. If you don't use tape, at least you can identity a problem while you can still fix it. The tape just masks the problem until it's too late. Lesson learned.
ОтветитьThis dude works for Big Caulk / Big Tape
ОтветитьWe just did this
ОтветитьI’m a little nervous about trying this tape trick only because I don’t want it to leave a track under the caulk when I’m done, but at the same time I NEED to use the tape because I have white walls and black caulk.
ОтветитьIs the tub have to be rea. Dry? Ne t question for how long I have to let it dry? I have only one shower at home
ОтветитьBig ol flared out mushroom head.
ОтветитьBullcrap. When u remove the tape theres a ridge of caulk
ОтветитьWhat a mess, btw if you want a durable finish never use tape
ОтветитьJust a reminder that Ace Hardware gave exclusively to Trump and Project 2025.
ОтветитьThis advice is for newbies like me who aren't diyers. He didn't mean it for professionals who know what theyre doing.
ОтветитьWhat the hell? The corner is absolute crap. The caulk doesn't cover the gap that it needs to. It looks like you put the tape too close to the gap.
ОтветитьThank you!!
ОтветитьYOOOOO! This is Lou who is on WGN Channel 9 in Chicago!! I knew he looked familiar! Definitely using this for my bathroom!!
ОтветитьHow large a gap can be filled this way before some other form of intervention is required?
ОтветитьYou always want to put your caulk just where it belongs, in the right cracks.
ОтветитьI love shopping at Ace
Ответитьthe fact he used 3 pieces of tape for one edge of the tub told me everything I needed to know, he doesn’t really know what the hell he’s doing lol
ОтветитьI'll save tape and a rag by just using a caulking tool. :/
ОтветитьI was told to tape, fill the tub either water and then caulk, leave the water in overnight vs caulking with an empty tub as filling it later could separate the new caulking?
ОтветитьWhite surfaces with white caulk under white light ...hmm🤔
Ответитьdon't use that Ace painters tape though. it's awful compared to the name brand stuff.
ОтветитьThanks for chaulking video!
ОтветитьWhat’s with the tape mate? You are obviously not a tradesman
Ответитьwhoever did this doesnt know a thing about proper caulking techniques, way,way too much caulking applied and you certainly dont want to smooth out in small runs. worst how to caaulk video ever.
ОтветитьHessel Highway
ОтветитьWhy do he talk so slow wow
ОтветитьThank you Ace for the video. Very helpful 😊
ОтветитьNonsense. You can see the black gap in the last second of the video. I think if you tape it, it will leave a tiny gap where the dirt will accumulate and it will get mould quickly.
ОтветитьTaping is the worst concept ever for caulking.
ОтветитьWhat a joke that the tape is the worst...if you pull the tape you will then have a ridge...they failed to mention take a wet finger and run it down the caulk line again so it adheres to the tile and tub.
ОтветитьOh man. I just finished getting it all ready for new caulking, only to find out the tube of silicone has gone solid. (It's about a year old.) I'll have to fork out more dough for a new tube.
Thanks for making this video. At least I know what to do, now.
SUPER HELPFUL. The tape worked perfectly for me. And this time I waited until the shower was bone dry before caulking which is also key.
And whatever about any ridge on the caulk after pulling the tape. If you're cleaning your shower, you'll be fine. There are loads of places for mold to grow in bathrooms - just keep it clean y'all.
Ok I really need to take some notes instructions I f I had a handyman around I really don’t have to. Buy the paint, equipments and also brushes so my daughter help me by paint my walls often besides if my work orders for my apartment gets around to it to get these same professional results.
ОтветитьWho in the hell puts tape to caulk? What a horrible video, you shouldn’t “teach” people the wrong way lol.
ОтветитьThe painter tape trick works, but it can also create an raised edge on the joint when you remove it.
ОтветитьI'm about to do this myself for the first time ever. How do inremove my old caulking first? And how long do I wait until after that's removed to recaulk?
ОтветитьThis kinda explains why there are less Ace Hardware then ever 😂
ОтветитьSuper helpful, thank you!
ОтветитьACE does not know what to do, only where the supplies are in the store.
ОтветитьYou should be filling the bathtub with water before you caulk because of the weight shift. After you caulk it you empty the water with the caulk still wet.
ОтветитьGood tips in the video: tape to create a track for the caulk, moisten finger to smooth, use a rag to wipe excess, and remove tape while wet and slowly to get that nice straight edge. I would also add prep surface by cleaning off old caulking, dried mildew with either vinegar or rubbing alcohol on a rag.
ОтветитьI had a hard time Pushing the cauk out of the.gun, So hard to push😂
ОтветитьLou you da MAN
ОтветитьU don't need tape. Caulk is not that difficult to just form a straight line.
ОтветитьHis voice and cadence sounds like Ron Desantis
ОтветитьOK, I watched the video and read all the comments below, and decided to tape things up before starting. What a HUGE mistake! After I did one side of the shower I went to peel it off right away, and it was a disaster. First, it did leave a gap under the caulk that water was obviously going to sit in and get moldy. Second, it was a pain to pull a good length off and not get silicone all over the place. At that point I stopped, removed all the tape from the sides I hadn't done yet, used my wet finger to smooth out the one side that did have tape on it, and finished the rest of the shower with no tape and just my finger. It came out awesome. Just have a nice pile of wet paper towels for your finger and you're good to go.
ОтветитьFor those who worry about tape causing rippling, the risk is low if you work on one length at a time, but what I always do is once the tape is removed run your finger over the bead to blend it in using either Turps or soapy water (depending on what the clean-up or finishing instructions say to use).
ОтветитьI have watched about 20 different caulking videos and every single one of them is Wet tooling Flim flam finger tooling Lick and stick clueless
