Now this is al well and good, but it doesn't explain the Russian people's absolute inability to rebel against unjust authority while other peoples do not manifest the same quirk. Look at Iranian women who protested massively at the cost of their lives or their freedoms: why did they not become vatniki instead? What makes Russians so particularly fond of being mistreated by their leaders?

Can someone answer why is the independence of Kosovo recognized by the west, but not the independence of Donbas? They were willing to spend billions to go to war for Donbas...

the irony is that normal people are just being normal, that is, basically tribalistic; imagine a bit of The Lord of the Flies

Not everyone needs a “tribe”. The tribal mentality is what creates most societal problems, “otherizing” some group etc. I could never understand the obsessions with team sports and fans going nuts to support their team (substitute tribe) and trash the opponents. Just zoom the f-k out and see our planet from a distance. Or imagine being stranded with a stranger or any earth life form millions of miles from our planet and the affinity you will feel to them. Forget your stupid tribes, we are all the same.

@elvirabary

After watching this I understand it like this: Vatnik and Putin seems to be somewhat similar in ways to MAGA and Trump. It just does not matter what is said. It matters only that THEY said it. But that is the way I am interpreting things. You are correct about it not being about propaganda or even the ideology behind it. It is simply down to human nature. Concerning the current situation, Elvira, is this now a battle of wits and egos? And if so, to what end? Many claim to understand Putin's thinking. Many also claim to understand Zelinskyy's. The only thing I understand is that Russia now controls 20 percent of Ukraine. This war is dragging on. And Russia keeps printing fresh rubles...🤔

Conclusione.
Bisogna saper scegliere a quale tribu è meglio appartenere. Se fai parte di una tribù belligerante, colonialista, e tu non lo sei, allora fai fagotto e vai dove ti riconosci meglio

Normal people do not support the war in Ukraine. Normal people do not elect a psychopath for president. "Educated people" not always means "normal people". Educated savages.

Thank you Elvira. In fact, much can be explained psychologically. Nevertheless, the starting position was more or less the same for Ukraine in 1991. Nevertheless, the Ukrainians took to the streets, forced the politicians to hold new elections or, as in the Maidan Revolution, sent their despot into the desert. In Russia, there were also protests. But the support was significantly lower - and the imperial demeanor is alien to Ukrainians. The majority of Russians voted for despotism, the Ukrainians for freedom. Both belong to the same species of Homo sapiens. But here, the similarities seem to end and your explanatory pattern seems to fail. Apparently, there is also a cultural DNA. In their majority, Russia seems unwilling to prioritize individual freedoms over oppression.
How do you explain these differences?

My opinion is that what you're describing is a form of deprivement of free will. Or coercion if you will. Of course when threatened by something, one can be made to adhere to things you normally wouldn't cling to or believe. But in that case have you become a true believer? I don't think so. Arguing for something out of fear is not the same thing as truly believing something in one's heart. It's a psychological moebius loop.

This applies almost identically to trump supporters. I have been aware of my own bias for a while, and I wanted to forge my own path, but I saw blind partisanship in the teams my friends supported, without noticing at first how I was just as blind to the loyalty to my own team..

Poland and Hungary should occupy the western part of Ukraine. This is a good opportunity. Because Ukraine is an artificial country, it has neither its own history nor language. Ukrainian language was created by making some minor changes.

This makes sense when it comes to people I know in my country too. One of them once asked “we had the lockdown, then it was lifted and the war on Ukraine started”. He implied that there was some connection. I think the obvious connection was isolation. Another one says that he is a nobody, unsuccessful, untalented, his folks are becoming a thing of the past. Again the sense of being without a tribe.

This "blind, aggressive loyalty to authoritarian power" has IMO genetic origin in Russia, which was formed by centuries long tyrany of both invaders, both local leaders at all levels of social hiearchy. Only extremely loyal slaves survived.

Why were most (US) Americans supportive of or indifferent to the 2003 invasion of Iraq? The bombing of Yugoslavia/Serbia? At least the Russian Federation can truthfully claim there were ethnic Russians being attacked and their culture oppressed in the Ukraine. There were no 'ethnic Americans' in significant numbers in Iraq or Serbia or Montenegro.
