Neither the Democratic nor Republican parties align with classical fascism, as both function within a democratic framework, allow for political opposition, and uphold individual rights and freedoms. However, rhetorical or policy parallels to elements of fascism are sometimes raised in debates.

While both parties operate within a democratic context, political opponents often accuse the other side of exhibiting "fascist" tendencies as a rhetorical strategy. However, genuine fascism requires authoritarian control, suppression of dissent, and prioritization of the state above all else, none of which fully characterizes the actions or policies of either major U.S. party. The U.S. political system's checks and balances prevent either party from aligning with true fascist ideology.

Notes I've taken as I watched:

The paralelism between the girl and V: While we cannot say V is applying "make up", he's breaking a gender expectation of a conservative modern context by taking so much care of his image. That is in itself an act of rebellion.

It is also interesting to think about the origin of the word "villain". Initially, it wasn't a word that meant "evil", it simply was a word to refer to those who didn't live in a castle and, therefore, weren't considered nobles.

The fact that poverty became synonym with evil is sadly meaningful. To this day, the spanish word "villero" is used to refer about those who live in "villas" places of poverty outside the cities, and often marginalized in some countries.

In this way, V and the girl could be "the villain" in the sense that they aren't "nobles". They don't belong to fortified castles.

I read that conspiracy theories are becoming increasingly popular due to the lack of strong narratives of our times, and the confusion between narratives and information. While narratives are somewhat mysterious, they tend to last in time and bond people, information is fleeting, tends to saturate and is disconected.

Facing a disjointed perception of reality, some hold onto anything that seems consistent in its repetition. After all, it is attributed to Goebbels the idea that if you repeat a lie often enough, it becomes the truth.

Furthermore, this year I've read True Believer, by Eric Hoffer (I highly recommend it) a book that explains how and why mass movements appear.

He mentions that followers accept contradictory, senseless dogma not despite their lack of sense, but precisely because their lack of sense.

The more contradictory they become, the better, they need their creed to be impossible to be believed. This leads into powerful cognitive distorsions, turning the irrational ones into fanatics. Any reasonable evidence will be rejected and if communication is not possible violence is certain.

The strategies of media manipulation are also worth analyzing in comparison to our present.

Before, there were only a few mass media which shared a message, so we only got one chance to examine reality through media. General consensus here is that people largely accepted whatever media told them.

Nowadays there is an endless sea of media, however the underlying structure is as monolithical as ever, with big data of users that make them easier to handle like cattle. Through algorithms we are encouraged to stay in our distorted point of view, unless we break that consciously by questioning our reality, believes and skills.

The greatest danger, however, is how good media has become in giving the ignorant the illusion of wisdom, the feeling that they don't need to doubt or question themselves or others. They believe their thoughts are their own.

I haven't finished the video yet, but I love Alan Moore's works, and knowing more about the references is only making me love more what I've read!

Its important to understand and have discernment to know when people come into places of power via Competence VS Tryany. Things will never be equal, someone always has more power than someone else, and theres always someone willing to do more than you. There's someone out there who is gonna work 80 hour weeks for 20 years to get where he wants to be, hes gonna have more than you, and he earned it through competence and industriousness.

I love all of your commentary on this issue that we all need to think about far more critically. I was especially intrigued by the analysis of the role of women in fascism, particularly the part involving Mitt Romney's quote. I was raised in a strict Mormon family and I was always taught that I must adhere to the very limited roles determined for me. Any doubt or criticism I voiced was dismissed as "Satan's influence" and I was told that I was wrong for wanting actual autonomy. You were absolutely right when you described the method with which a patriarchal society subjugates certain groups of people. Please keep the literary analyses coming!

Your commentary about the 1st page and the content on it hits too close to home. While its heavily promoted for men to sign the contract with military to invade neighboring country, women face a lot more pressure to become mothers, to look and act feminine. Government through influencers pushes the idea of having many children, supported by conspiracies of "main nation" dying out and getting replaced with immigrants. In some places women recieve "invitations" to "check" reproductive health, politicians now say more frequently, that women should have a child first and only then pursue higher education (which is nonsense, since in that case no one in the new family will have a higher education and the chance to get a well-paid job, since the father should be in the trenches). I feel lucky that I managed to grow up in the more peaceful time, when our government wasn't faschist yet. But the future doesn't look bright

I have to disagree with your analysis on the overuse of "fascism" to where it has become meaningless because I hardly ever hear the "right" use fascism to describe anything. I think this is actually a sort of self-imposed problem the left is encountering, because they are the ones who began throwing this word around to describe essentially anyone who opposes their views, and they tend to call anyone tho disagrees with them "fascists." It's very inaccurate to say that the current "fascists" in power are the ones who have rendered the word useless, because they are not the ones who throw it around to describe anything from social media posts to random people in the street— similar to "nazis," which has also lost any meaning because people on the left tend to call many people "nazis" even if that term doesn't accurately describe the person(s) they are accusing of being a nazi. I think it's pretty obvious what side has used this word (and others) and thrown it around to the point to where it has no potent meaning anymore.
