Yoga with Melissa Episode 180

This is not a yoga for weight loss class. This is a beginner yoga for weight acceptance class. There are a number of social processes working against you to make you hate your body and your weight and they are designed to keep you buying diet and diet related products. We don’t need to exhaust ourselves by mentally beating ourselves up playing the negative soundtrack over and over again in our heads fueling the pain and frustration with our bodies. We don’t need to postpone our lives, hold back from life, wait for some perfect moment, and terrify ourselves with fear. We can stop the war with ourselves, we can stop rejecting ourselves and our bodies. Yoga promises us that that who you really are is already open and free and loving and deeply accepting, it is simply a matter of relaxing into and opening to that part of yourself.

Join us for a 40 minute beginner hatha yoga where we accept our current weight as perfect as it is. We will practice beginner level poses with step by step instructions, modifications and lots of options. We will begin with Knees to Chest Pose, move into a Reclined Twist Pose and then bridge pose. We will come to all fours for cat pose and downward facing dog with lots of options for beginners. When we come to standing we will practice mountain pose, tree pose, standing side bend, standing backbend, standing forward fold (with options for tight hamstrings, and chair pose. We will come back down to seated to practice a simple twist and forward fold with lots of options for tight hips.
