This talk changed my life. I went to silicon valley with a startup and like 99% of them it failed. Now Im in a different part of the country selling a product people pay money for and building my business. I saw so many people waste their lives chasing after a dream that will never happen. 
Thank you David for showing me that im not crazy to just make a nice small business instead of trying to make something huge that will never work.

So much truth here. Has anyone actually looked at Groupon’s financial statements? They lost ~500M a year and the founder got kicked out of his own company... there is a better approach and that is what DHH is referencing here.

DHH's comments on not trying to do one thing for 10 hours a day, 7 days a week are bang on. I created a one-man startup immediately after finishing uni and regret it 100%. I get maybe 50% more work done dedicating 50+ hours per week to my product than I was when dedicating 10 hours a week to it and studying full time. Efficiency just dives.

This is so irrational. He doesn't know how valuable is to have a strong VC funding ecosystem that he has in USA. I live in South America and here is everything so difficult, no one like or have enough money to invest in startups.

Coming back and watching this again (after watching it countless times over the years). Such an epic talk by DHH!

This is one of the best business talks I have watched in my entire life. The insights are even more relevant to developing African economies like South Africa which has more barriers to funding and big corporate clients. Thanks to Courtland Allen for recommending this talk.
