Demon's Souls Remake on PlayStation 5: The Digital Foundry Tech Review

If anything this highlights just how great the PS3 version still looks

I now wonder if fans would be happy with a dark souls 1 remake

The only thing that prevents this version from being a permanent replacement for the original, is the new soundtrack. In a vacuum, the music is fantastic. Comparing it to the original's however, and I definitely prefer the more subdued style there. I feel like an optional toggle between the original and new soundtracks would've made this a perfect remake.

I think this is the best looking game yet. Except maybe ratchet and clank. Those manta rays projectiles are awesome

They screwed up many enemy designs, and really really REALLY screwed up the music.
All while not updating the gameplay which is easily the weakest of the Souls games, they could have improved boss AI, removed item burden, and streamlined the world tendency system at least. I waited so long to play it but I wasn't a fan in the end. I honestly think I prefer the PS3 version on RPCS3, call it nostalgia I don't care, but the atmosphere is just unique in that game.

An example of something that doesn't push technology in a new way but uses everything it's got to the full extent.

I'm really not sure why we need such a long comparison in terms of lighting, geometry, and texture quality here.
The remake is one of the most gorgeous game ever made yet, and the first 3 souls game (this one + DS 1 and 2) look.. well.. just atrocious. There's nothing to compare, really.

My only wish now is that Bluepoint is given the greenlight to remake Bloodborne. If any game deserves it, it's this one. The aesthetic is just too good.

Still the best looking game

One of the first games I played and completed on PS5 definitely was a joy to play and not too long thankfully.

After watching the new Final Fantasy 16 footage I have to say, I can see WAY too much details in Demon's Souls. Time to patch this game up and turn off the brightness all the way to negative 16...

I never had a Ps3, but love souls games and really want to experience demon souls. But, I'm worried they have changed too much of the dark atmosphere, aesthetics of environmental designs, and overall small details that might have been watered down in the remake...

Got my ps5 today and im happy after waiting 3 years.

Love this game and was a big fan of the original. There are some changes I didn’t like especially music and some enemy designs. But still a great Remake for a pretty underrated game.

I still like the original Demons Souls better. The look of the game, it felt OUT of this world, it felt unreal, like it was a dream. I think the game looked just as what the developers intended, they nailed, and I always liked it, before all the new fans, I was one of the first.

This Game is Excellent on PlayStation 5 while using the Performance Mode

As there were volumetric clouds in Motorstorm 2, LAIR and Warhawk why wasn't there Volumetric fog in Demon's Souls? How expensive are volumteric clouds?

Still the best looking ps5 game. Its unbelievable. The game looks like 4k in performance mode. So much detail.

To this day, this is the best-looking game I have ever played.

Loved Elden Ring , just didn't enjoy this, sadly.

2 years later and this is still the epitome of what Next Gen could be, and one of the few games that reaches those heights.

Never forget the ps3 demons souls and how I grinded for 3 days to get that pure bladestone all to just hand it to my friends so they could platinum the game as well

The greatest challenge is finding a Demon's Souls to play PS5...

Now since bluepoint games has shown what they’re truly capable I can only assume they’d be picked to remake bloodborne if it was to ever be remade !!

They did an amazing job with Shadow of the Colossus remake. I don't understand why they couldn't show the same level of respect for the source material with the Demon's Souls remake, and had to take "artistic liberties" that break with Fromsoft's original vision. A great remake nonetheless, but far from the quality and level of care that the previous Shadow of the Colossus remake had.

Still can’t tell the difference between the original and remake. What a waste of money. Can’t believe people got suckered into buying this game.

I played this again earlier this morning. This is still the best looking game on ps5 and it’s not even close. The detail, lighting, shadows etc. everything feels grounded to the world and nothing feel like it’s just placed there floating in the world. Masterpiece of a remake.

This game looks better than Black Myth: Wukong on PS5 (Next-gen game btw)
