You can also take the dpf filter off and pressure wash it with some simple green. It’s not the carbon you need to worry about it’s the ash. Ash never goes away until you remove it physically aka pressure washer. Just fyi. Thanks bud and godbless

In the UK, cars with a DPF have either zero road tax, or it’s very low ((maybe £30/year). However…….when the DPF gets to the end of its life, the car won’t pass its annual test, emissions too high. This is where the low tax for several years cancels out, you end up with a high replacement bill for the filter. I sold my car with a DPF before it got to that stage.

They have dpf shops that clean they atleast for big rigs maybe they will do a small one too?

This is pretty idiotic. You realize that a clog is happening for a reason, right? 97% of people with these codes have cracked DPF's that oven cleaner cannot fix.

Why do you have to disconnect the exhaust. Think it will work without disconnecting

I did this process, ending with running the exhaust unplugged for 20 minutes. Then I manually cleared my engine light and went for drive. After driving for 15 miles, the engine light came back on. At 20 miles, I got a flashing glowplug light, and noticed it wouldn't rev past around 3500rpm. This was just as I was arriving home. I ran my OBD-II and had the DPF code, and now had a new code P0299 Turbo Underboost, which made complete sense based on how it was driving. Any ideas?

Can also use tsp and water solution. Its very good for oily stuff. It will not eat the ceramic either. I would alternate 2 cans of oven cleaner and 2 solutions of tsp. Its a powder, mix it with water, like 2 tbsp per 8oz.
Cheap cheap way of doing it i think.
It really strips and cleans, it leaves no residue, i think oven cleaner leaves a film of slick stuff sometimes.
It would be more ideal to backwash,
So i think there is a process where you drill a 1 inch hole, insert a plug that inflates, like a bulb with a pump, that seals engine exhaust from water.
Then spray and set for 2 hours, backwash from catalytic split, and repeat it that way 4 times.
Would take hose adapter, inflatable plug, and a way to seal the 1 inch hole, welding it up.

But, if thats easier than rippin out the garbage factory shit, THEN definetly use the butt plug method.
Or the oven cleaner tsp method.

Best yet way i think is alternate concentrated sulfuric acid wash and tsp wash giving an hour or 2 for it to sit in and dissolve the crud. Would dilute the stuff before running or regen, and end it with the basic tsp for least amount of corrosion after.
Its the most intensive chemical method, high ph swing washing.
Or maybe hydrogen peroxide concentrated alternate with tsp would be better too.

There should be a test with one removed, in a ultrasonic cleaner to see which one works best.

Will this clean the whole EGR system or just the DPF. I have the P0401 code which specifies the EGR valve(s) My car (2013 VW Jetta TDI Sportwagen) is going into what I think might be "limp mode".1st gear only, which I've seen some threads saying that EGR codes can be a cause for this. Have you herd of this happening?

It could also be cracked internally and soot is passing and blocking up the EGR.... 100 cans of oven cleaner will not fix this. It may be best to replace the DPF (it is $3500-$4000 to have it done). I just got these codes. Not worried. I will try re-Gen, clear fault... etc. For those who don't know ROSS TECH or VCDS makes software and a dongle to connect to the car through OBDS port and you can do diagnostics and maintenance, look at codes, clear codes but more over force things like DPF Re-Gen. If you own a VW TDI the RossTech is worth having. If you don't know what that is the DPF collects all the nasty stuff, COOKS IT AT HIGH TEMP periodically, and turns it to ash and water.... Eventually the DPF may fill with ASH and reduce the efficiency. Assuming it is not cracked there is no way to clean out the DPF not withstanding this oven cleaner game in this video which I WILL NOT DO. Hey it may work? Seems sketchy. The other option is replace the DPF with a straight pipe and tune the car to accept it, often done with high and or low pressure EGR delete. I DO NOT RCOMMEND THIS. The job can be done DIY by a very competent amateurs but recommend you bring to a independent VW shop. BAD NEWS... Many shops no long work on cars made before a cutoff date... INCLUDING VW DEALERS! Often is is 2012 or 2009. But 10-15 yr old is max typically..

Oven cleaner is usualy costic that may cause other issues over time.
