So on my classic K45SSWH model I can use a 5.5 bowl? See my bowl keeps skipping out if the grooves as it mixes and I have to hold it in place until it finishes mixing when making pizza dough.

I'm deciding between a 5qt or a 6qt bowl lift. Right now I can get a better deal with the 6qt, but I'm thinking it maybe will be too big. Can you also make smaller batches with the 6qt or will it not mix well enough? Thanks in advance!

I kept thinking I lost a lock washer on mine when I went to replace the grease and worm gear. Good to know they only add one for some weird reason. Just ordered some new washers worm gear and gasket and an everdime, now my passed down artisan is working like a champ. Thanks for your how to videos and will definitely be supporting your store in the future!

Very very informative. Helped me decide which machine works well for me.

However, tell me ,.. do all the machines have batter sprayed into the machine?? then wouldn't we need to clean up every time by opening the head???

20 years ago, the Kitchen Aid was a great stand mixer. Unfortunately it has been consistently "value engineered" to reduce cost and I have come to hate the motor, gearing, and speed control on my new 5 quart unit. I'm giving up, sending it to Goodwill, and will be buying an Ankarsrum.

If they only sell the 7 qt planetary drive & DC motor as a unit, let's just go ahead and call it not serviceable.

I've had a KitchenAid mixer for two years now and since I found your video tonight, I've learned more about it than I ever knew. As many times as it has been wiped off I never noticed the "Artisan" on the decorative band. I've also bookmarked your website in case I ever need to send it out for repairs. TY

bought a Kitchenaid KSM55SXXX from Target on sale for $279. Being a mechanic I opened it up first thing to find the 500 watt A/C motor from the 600 and the Transmission from the 7 qt model. It has the 500 watt a/c motor with the duel planetary motor reduction to the mixing planitary gears. The power flow through the entire mixer has been redesigned. I have conserns about those planitarys so I immediatly mixed a batch of my oatmeal rasin cookies. Planitarys add a distinct powerful and percise torque, far more than the old style transmission. . I added a screwdriver of oil to the rear set of planitarys as their are two right off the motor feeding the mixing planitary., and it became very quiet. Its quiter than the Pro 600. I bought a 7 qt bowl. this mixer smokes prior models with smooth quiet and fast power.. When I use a scraper beater and adjust it so it actually touches the bowl, it creams butter and sugar so fluffy, and quick. Just a retired mecchanics view and may not reflect any actual knowledge of mixer usage. I bought a Referb artisan that was quite used then the 600 that my food processor spun like a top in. I anied up to a new artisan that wined more than my step mother, so I walked into target and bought this KSM55sxxx. For me its the Hub attachments.. I have a aftermarket meat tenderizer , food processor ext all work great no issue yet

TronicsFIX brought me here. This was a very informative video. My dough hook became warped years ago, and I never got to use it. Now I see that it was a blessing in disguise . I may need to upgrade my OG base model Kitchen Aid to handle such a task. PS I purchased one of your anti-vibration mattes. I look forward to receiving it.

Great video.
Help me out with an information - if my dough batch has a range of say 500g flour to 2kilo flour, which should be good?

I have a small dough mixer and with 750g dough, it sticks to the top and makes a mess.

I want to upgrade to a good brand.

I think there is a costco specific mixer. The HD6000 or something along those line. 120v dc motor I think. Do you know if that shares parts with any other model? I am trying to figure out a way to convert it to run on 220/230 in Europe, but I have not been able to figure out which motor / control board can be used.

I just purchased a KSM55 mixer and it looks like the designer had a real brain fart when it came to the way the bowl is released at the neck of the mixer with that metal clip with the hole in it. Couldn't the tail on that clip have been extended upward so it could be depressed with a thumb rather than needing to pull up with so much force to release the clip from the bowl? You said you enhance the design of these mixers. It seems like improving that metal clip as I described and making it available would be a wonderful way to prevent all the bad reviews that people sent in about how they hate the way they need to use two hands to pop the back of the bowl off of the neck of the mixer.

One thing you missed, about height preference. When measuring cabinet height, be aware of how much room is needed for when you have to tilt the head back.

I brought my older mixers back to life, because of your videos, thank you! I also (thanks to you) change the grease annually, or on any new mixer I purchase. Do you have a video on greasing the ksm70sk? I know replacing single parts is a no-go on these models, but can they be greased like any other Kitchenaid mixer?
