I liked this version of John Hammond better than the book. In the book he was simply looking for maximum profit for minimal effort. In the movie he was pursuing a dream, a desire to bring wonder and the majority of his problems were in trusting employees to be experts in their field (Biology for Dr Henry Wu, Nedry for computers) that either had no grasp of commonly known aspects of related fields (Zoology - Wu) or were lacking in oversight (Nedry).
