It is good seamanship to rig a preventer, when going down wind, in order to avoid accidents or damages from an accidental Gybe.
On Saga47swan we have two boom preventer lines rigged and ready to use.
The boom preventer line must be rigged from the end of the boom, not mid boom!
The preventer line should be brought forward to the bow of the vessel, so you get a good angle. Bring the preventer line back to the cockpit pit area onto a winch or stern cleat. Bringing it back allows you to release the preventer line without having someone going forward .
Stress free and safe sailing is key to a happy cruising lifestyle.
