I learned about this civil war in school but I didn't know that vikings were involved

Are you sure about "early Russian state"? As I remember, Novgorod was (if we use term Early state) first russian-slavik state, and even that become state, strong and dominant, after Mongols.

saerkland probably comes from the old norse word, "saerk", meaning a tunic, or a piece of cloth to cover the upper body.

The only Europeans to travel to America Before Columbus were the Britons (Bow known as Welsh people) the Vikings may have landed in Canada, but certainly not the US as we know it today.
