Nice video but as a Rio veteran i can tell you tvat this video is a bit overpanicing. You say: Don't trust anyone, everyone can be bad, everyone's gotta kill you! I act the following way:
1.) Never get drunk
2.) Copacabanna is the nicest beach for hanging out daytime but: to avoid of getting robbed, leave your things at home! (Cellphopne, Cashcard...) IF you take it with you ask a guy where you rent an umbrella if you can put it in their Box! MANY PEOPLE THAT RENT YOU SEATS AND UMBRELLAS DO THAT!!! Don't be shy to ask them! You can trust them (at least the ones i know). Why? If they do not take care of your stuff and it gets robbed they will be held responsible by the tourists, bad word of mouth will damage their reputation, they will loose their costumers. Although many of these people live in communidades (please don't call them Favelas- this could sound racist to some people!!) they do not own much money and need this job!
3.) IF you go out i have to disagree: Lappa is super save! There is so much police and security everywere. The most dangerous thing are these (correcty mentioned) drugs but not only this specific one and getting robbed! As someone who travels there since ~10 years regularry i can tell you of course you can trust certain people but of course not anyone.

The annoying thing is that many brazillians are super afraid of basically anything! They try to be overprotective wich can be annoying! One person even tried to lock me in and i called the cops! Its a fucking normal City and if you leave your important stuff at home and go out only with cash, without your phone (if you meet up, arrange it before) you are fine!
Thats my experience!

Rio de Janeiro is very dangerous for his own citizens… imagine for innocent foreigners kkkkkkkk.

So I’ve been born and raised in one of the most poor places in Rio, almost 50km from the center. Rio is for sure not a safe place like many big cities in Europe (and I’m not talking out of nothing, now a days I live in Berlin) and there’s really a big problem with cellphones robbery there. But lapa for exemple is one of the best places for night life, and these tips for watching ur drink, and stuffs like that are very generic, all over the world everyone should do that. But u can have a good time in lapa, there are very good bars and nightclubs there, and everyday on the weekend the security is stronger because there are many people and with more people comes more problems. And my biggest recommendation is to go on the spring, there aren’t much rain and the crime rates goes higher in somer as well

@SwedishGringo I am traveling by myself in Rio in 10 days. That being said I have been in Africa where they also like to steal phones. I dont go anywhere with something valuable out. Now I want to take pics in Rio at the beach I bought very little camera which goes in water as well is it safe to use it for pics on the beach or should I go very early to take pics and then hide it again in the hotel?

I was in Rio in April 2016. I lay alone on the beach of ipanema. Nothing happened. Nobody came close to me. Only one seller and he asked me why i am alone and dont have a girl friend. Well I didnt want to tell him that I am not good with women and dont like them very much. So i told him that my girl friend left earlier. Well thats all what happened. Maybe the criminals were afraid of me.

It's weird being a local, cause I've never been robbed or had any trouble in Lapa. Or the beach, for that matter. Specially before the pandemic, I used to go out so much more, i don't know if it has changed that much. But yeah, it's never too much to stress not to accept drinks from strangers vendors from the street/beach and be with a group of people to feel safe.

Moro em Salvador da Bahia e o que dizem é mais perigoso que o Rio de Janeiro, da minha parte nunca tive problemas, bom tenho um pouco mais de sorte, sou muito local, então me ajuda a passar com mais facilidade, um gringo pode ser sentido a 1km de distância, seu comportamento, suas roupas, etc.

Had no problem in Rio. Spent 10 days. I keep big bills and bank cards in a hidden pocket, I walk from one side of the city to another at night and don't feel in danger. But I never leave my drink out of sight, I finish it or take it with me when move.

I visited Lapa a few times back in 2013. You had to watch out a bit, but it was absolutely fine to buy drinks at street bars and walk around, also alone. Obviously it has changed.
