@googleworkpace! Using Gmail for a non-profit org & trying to setup a mail merge through Gmail. I consistently get "Can't open the sheet. Try again or try another sheet" pop-up message. It only has 5 columns & 300+ rows. Can you help troubleshoot? Thanks.

ОтветитьI find it baffling how so much work can be put into a feature like this from Google, and yet no where, and I mean NO WHERE do they provide an example of how a spread sheet should be formatted for this. Not even a template. When you export your google contacts into a csv file, that format is not compatible. Are we really expected to manually punch in one name at a time for a feature that's specifically made for bulk sending large amount of emails? Clearly not, so the spreadsheet route seems like the intended use to me. Despite this, absolutely 0 support. Thanks Google.

ОтветитьI switched from a company that used Outlook to one that uses Gmail. I have several Word and Excel documents I brought with me for performing mail merges. I have a long running Excel spreadsheet that I would like to port over since my new company uses Gmail. When I upload the Excel file to Drive and then point the Mail Merge at that spreadsheet, I get the error message:
Can't open the sheet
Try again later or try another sheet.
The Excel file has one worksheet that builds a single table for Word's Mail Merge. I have saved only that worksheet from the original file into an Excel file with values instead of formulas and uploaded it. I have saved only that worksheet from the original file into a CSV file an uploaded it. I keep getting the same error message. How do I format my Excel worksheet for Gmail? Or do I have to somehow build a Google Sheet from scratch? I don't really want to do that because I already have the 48 columns of unique information for each recipient all worked out.
Also, I have several Word documents that refer back to the same Excel file based on time of the year, upcoming deadlines, etc. Does Google Docs recognize Word Mail Merges? It doesn't appear to when I uploaded the Word document.
Being able to write a letter in Word, point it at the specific Excel worksheet with the data, and click Finish & Merge was simplicity itself. Please inform me that this is possible with Google Workspace.

And, what individual place holder are there in case of use of specific Google Spreadsheet?
Example: for our club, there a multiple dismissals and cancellations of memberships, so I would like to inform them with identical text, but personlized FirstName/Name, Date of Cancellation. ОтветитьOnce again and like so many other Google Workspace videos - your video is far too fast. Plus, you totally ignore how to send out the mail merge gmail after you have completed a test preview and how to prevent getting individual recipient gmails in your sent box after sending out the mail merge gmail. I tried it out. I composed a mail merge gmail to be sent out to three recipients. Before sending the final gmail, I sent a test preview to myself. Luckily, beforehand I minimized the original email on my screen, checked my preview and then sent it out. Once I sent out the gmail, I found there were four individual gmails in my send box. If I send 300 mail merge gmails how do I prevent receiving 300 individual gmails in my send box? For the non-techie people- Google needs to simplify thier instructions and add more videos with examples.

ОтветитьThis video while nice is vastly incomplete. I have a workspace account but the icon is not showing up on my compose email. It would be much more helpful if this video was organized to share all steps for installation. I have a business standard account and that little icon does not show up when I compose an email. So this video is sadly very incomplete and misleading.
