You can give companions commands. You can tell them to do stuff like hold fire and sneak using the number pad.

You can deal with light radiation using energy drinks. Even just drinking water can help with non-high level radition exposure.

Also there is a small bandit outpost in truck cemetary. There is a bandit npc that will repair your gear.

So as others have mentioned you can give orders to your companions with numpad. By default pressing down on your mouse wheel also brings up a radial menu to do the same thing. Useful for telling them not to pickup new weapons, for example :P Also worth noting is that you can right click on any armor and click the 'remove patch' button. If you do this then you can wear the armor without it disguising you. Furthermore helmets do not count towards the disguise system, so those military helmets or duty helmets are completely free game.

Totally had no idea about this game. As a person who has invested more than 500 hours in Fallout New Vegas I am almost ashamed of myself.
