Hi there I have a Peugeot 206, we recently changed an oil pan as the drain nut was stuck but in the process we saw a chain which was dipped into the initial oil pan however on inspecting the engine from above, we noticed a plastic cover on the left so could that mean that my car runs on a timing belt or a timing chain?

Replacing a timing belt usually is not that big of a deal and anybody with some level of mechanical aptitude can do it. Just make sure you use a manual and do your timing right

Timing chains break. Did on my 22r Toyota. You are correct about interference engines will bend your valves and piston damage.

I won't buy a car with a timing belt especially a used car

Timing chain can last long for how long to chain?

Funny how Honda fours use a chain, but the V6 uses a belt.
Good thing the fours put out solid power.

Timing Chains are not ALWAYS good for a lifetime... I have to replace mine now...😂

My 1981 Dodge Colt had a belt & the engine had to be removed to change it. Dealer wanted $500 (in 1985) I found a mechanic who would do it for $400 but he wasn't careful about lining up the gear teeth to the belt so the distributor cap & rotor burned up & stranded me every 40-60 miles. Took it to another mechanic who removed the engine again & reinstalled the belt correctly for $500. That was the last vehicle I owned with a timing belt. The purpose of a timing belt is to make more money for the dealer every 60K miles.

Incorrect info on timing chains....they do need maintenance, as the timing chain GUIDES wear out, meaning you'll need to get in there. And since you're in there, you'll probably wanna change the chain and maybe the timing gear

Keep the oil good change at regular intervals, you’ll have no problems with a timing chain 🤷‍♂️

Now this was a lottle odd to me, we had several cars growing up in the 70's and 80's that needed the timing chain replaced, ive never heard of the chains being good for the life of the car.
