The Perpignan Méditerranée encapsulates everything we love about travelling France - captivating nature, warm people, good food, even better wine and above all, the utmost care for ensuring tourism is sustainable for generations to come!

With over 300 days of sunshine a year and mild winters, the Perpignan Méditerranée is a perfect destination to visit all year round.

Here are some of the wonderful spots we visited:

📍Hermitage Notre-Dame-De-Pène - Cases de Pene

This was a beautiful and easy hike that took us to the Hermitage Notre-Dame-de-Pène that was founded in the 14th century. It’s no longer used as a place of worship except on special occasions, but we were treated to breathtaking views of the Agly and the Roussillon plain from high above.

📍Torreilles-Plage - Torreilles

The beaches of Torreilles remain one of the region's last wild and protected coastal areas. All 3 beaches in Torreilles were also awarded the European Blue Flag for their exemplary environmental quality and several accessible facilities.

We watched the sunrise here and Marcus even had a morning swim in the warm and pristine waters for a refreshing start to our day.

📍Perpignan Centre du Monde - Perpignan

Did you know, the city of Perpignan has twice been a capital city? It was first the capital of the County of Roussillon in 1162, then of the Kingdom of Majorca from 1276 to 1344. This city with strong Catalan influence was even coined by Dali as the “center of the universe”!

Don’t miss out on a visit to [The Castillet](https://www.perpignantourisme.com/le-castillet-et-le-musee-casa-pairal/), Rigaud Museum and [Palace of the Kings of Majorca](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palace_of_the_Kings_of_Majorca) when you’re there!

📍Etang de Salses-Leucate - Saint-Hippolyte

A Catalan village in the north of the Pyrénées-Orientales department, between Sales-le-Château and Le Barcarès.

This vast 49-hectare wetland has been classified as a Natura 2000 and ZPS (Zone de Protection Spéciale) site because of 280 species of birds that frequent the area, including some 30 protected species! Apart from the diverse wildlife, you can spot colorful Catalan boats that dot the coastline, making for a postcard-worthy picture!

📍Moulin Gorges du Gouleyrous - Tautavel

Nestled hidden between the cliffs of Vingrau and Tautavel by the Verdouble River, the Gorges des Gouleyrous were a pleasant surprise to discover. In the summer, it is filled with families enjoying the wonderful weather and playing in the waters.

It was a pity that we didn’t have enough time to go in for a dip, but if we did, you know that we (i.e Marcus) would have been in the water in a heartbeat 🫢
