Quick question, Lightroom 5 came out last week and you could have upgraded from your 3 to 5 directly, any reason you didn't do that?

The speed improvements were enough to sway me to Lightroom 5 from Lightroom 4. 20MP RAW files now load as fast as 20MP JPEGS from LR4, about 1 second per image, compared to 7-10 seconds for the RAW in LR4. The smart previews were a big thing for me too :)

Lightroom 5 the same as 4 but with a few added features. If you don't like taking your photos into ps then you will probably like it for retouching. But as far as the sliders I think it's the same.

The clarity slider is better in LR4 over LR4, and you can adjust color temp with the graduated filter and adjustment brush. Oh, and LR4 is SLOWER than LR3.... drives me nuts.

I've got a 5D mk3, and needed to upgrade to LR4.3 in order for the RAW files to be read correctly. I guess, as we upgrade our camera bodies, we'll need to upgrade the software in order to open the RAW files. I know that LR4 didn't open the files from the mk3, but had no issues with files from the mk2 or 550.

for packages that are dearly expensive, like PS, i suggest getting as much mileage out of them as you can. However, for something like LR which gives so much return for a relatively modest investment, I don't see much benefit in putting up upgrading when you do in fact get improved performance. I find LR4 to give a good deal more control than 3, at least for what I do. ;)

The only reason I got lightroom 5 is the brush spot removal. I would have to use photoshop for even the simpest thing because those circles did nothing. Photoshop is there for more important and hard stuff. Also that radial filter allows me to create some thin DOF really easily.

I like your videos Dom, but come on this kind of video is behind the times! Don't mean to sound like a hater, but thought you'd be comparing LR4 with LR5 at least!

lr5 is much faster rendering large RAW files then lr4 which is well worth the upgrade alone.

I really don't like Adobe's strategy of charging for new versions of Lightroom that mostly contain refinements to tools that have existed in Photoshop for years. Like the fact that in versions 1-4 you could only spot remove circular objects/blemishes without going to plugins or Photoshop. It's all contrived and limited by design in order to slow innovation to a trickle that best serves their profit margins. That being said, they make best in class software. They make the rules.

Does it work like the clone brush? As far as I'm concerned if a clone brush was added to Lightroom, it's a completed product with no need to get photoshop - or at least upgrade photoshop - layers and such would still be of use and a better way of adding a logo exists in photoshop)

Hi Dom, I'm a satisfied viewer - keep up the good work. In case you didn't know - You can get a complimentary free upgrade if you've purchased LR4 after LR5 was announced: You could be eligible for a complimentary upgrade if you bought your software product (full or upgrade) soon after a new version was announced. To find out if your purchase falls in the eligibility period, contact Adobe to chat with an agent (English only).

i know this is the basic of basics, but it's something that i still can't understand how it works !!! For what i've read when editing, LR keeps the original picture untouched, so my question is: the changes we do are saved on an new copy creating another picture with the changes? or it generates a specific file only with chages that are apllied in the original photo ? other question, if i edit a picture on Lr in a pc ... can i edit/see the changes made in it ... on a MAc ? thanks from Portugal
