the first ed paladin's stats put the 5e paladin's stats to shame.
ОтветитьThis is just driving home why 5th ed is garbage.
ОтветитьSo 1e paladins.. are Karens...
Yup, now I cant unsee that... my next paladin will definitely be named Karen.
Ya. Thanks for informing me how woke 5th is. Meaning that NOTHING has meaning or consequences. Including Hit Points. It's a pen and paper video game for those lacking the Constitution, grit and moral fortitude to play Old School.
Get your ass some Stormbringer 1st ed, OSRIC, AS&SH or perhaps Traveller and level up to MAN!
Nuff Said. (Drops scroll)
5e Paladins don't even need to be lawful good. Hasn't PC alignment basically become fluff?
Ответить"I'll just become an oathbreaker." So, paladins suck from a role play perspective?
Ответить1st and 2nd edition paladins war horse DID NOT appear next to the paladin when called. Instead, the paladin need to seek it out. It may require the completion of a quest. The 10 years period got dropped in 2nd edition. They where limited to a total of 10 magical items.
Very hard to qualify, very easy to fall.
LoL 5th edition paldians get summon steed spell from xanathars
ОтветитьDid he forget that paladins can learn find stead and find greater stead
Ответить5e is definitely better.
ОтветитьAnd whats worse, a first edition paladin needed more xp to lvl up as well and only can cast spells at lvl 9
ОтветитьPlayed AD&D Paladin back in the day. 1992. My DM made me do a solo side quest to get my WarHorse at 4th level. Never got that Holy Avenger but was certainly on the cards... 50% magic resistance yeah boy...!
ОтветитьPaladin 5e uses "find steed"
ОтветитьThe Waffle House has found it’s new host
ОтветитьYou should lose all of your abilities if you break your oath. Otherwise what's the point of a Paladin.
Ответить5e makes everything way too easy.
1e paladins had to earn their warhorse in a challenging quest that could take several weeks in-game time. 1e paladins risked death to get their special warhorse, while 5e paladins create replaceable steeds out of thin air.
Half of this was almost entertaining, the other half was about paladins
Ответитьa 1E paladin is rare and meant something, unlike your dimeadozen smitebot.
ОтветитьMan fighters were pretty kick ass in 1st ed
Ответитьwell becoming an oathbreaker isnt always a choice
ОтветитьTbh first edition was way more about role playing and way less about min/maxing, feats and whatnot.
ОтветитьDid I just see a dirty Knife EAR walking around here!
ОтветитьIdk, this video just kind of cements that 5e paladin lost the spirit of playing paladin
ОтветитьThe only thing 1e Paladins have going for them is weapon proficiency giving them a crazy to hit/ to damage
ОтветитьIt’s odd that we’ve yet to see 1st Edition Barbarian go up against 5e Barbarian.
They did have Barbarians in 1st edition right?
why could paladins only be human in 1st edition?
ОтветитьThe 1E summoned steed is intelligent heavy warhorse with 5D+5 hit dice with 3 attacks per round. It is more likely the 1E steed would stomp the 5E paladin into the ground.
ОтветитьI like how there nothinf good about 1th edition
ОтветитьWe never got barbarian!! (Also a fighter subclass if I remember correctly)
ОтветитьAh yes, a fighter sublcass, that eventually gets access to full cleric spell list, trully awful.
ОтветитьHonestly, Paladins back in 1e were a lot more fun than in 5e. The restrictions to the class, having to be lawful good and abide by your sacred tenets, have high enough stats as base (otherwise you couldn't even be one), so being a Paladin in and of itself was a rarity as not many people could roll the necessary stats to even make one, so as soon as someone managed to be one everyone on the table would be hyped.
Back then, I managed to make a Paladin in 4 different subsequent campaigns, something unheard of in the party I played with, since you had to be so lucky to roll exactly the high stats you needed (and no second chances btw, what you roll is what you get) so doing it 4 times in a row was super satisfying.
Couple that with having to adhere to a specific set of morals but being granted with amazing divine powers that made you a powerhouse at only Level 10 (I seriously remember being a God at Level 10, it was awesome), it made you feel special in the party and in the grand scheme of the campaign. Also, I don't know about you guys, but back then people were more into roleplaying in D&D rather than the whole "everyone's chaotic for the fun of it" kind of trend I see in parties nowadays.
Now, it feels like everyone can be a Paladin, and you don't even need to restrict yourself to being Lawful Good. You can be a Chaotic Evil Paladin depending on your Oath. Paladins in 5e feels like bastard children to what the Paladin used to be. They are more of like, a magic fighter/barbarian than a real holy warrior.
Also, a Paladin that is evil or neutral in any form just doesn't sit right with me. An evil "Paladin" should be called a Dark Knight or something like that. A neutral one should just be a magic fighter, or whatever. Paladin should be a title reserved only for the holy hero it was always meant to be. I'm sorry, but I just can't associate the word Paladin with any kind of character that isn't a straight up knight in shining armor.
In short: 1e Paladins were superior, fight me.
Being a fighter subclass makes actually total sense. A paladin is nothing but a fighter / knight with a bunch of holy powers and ideal.
ОтветитьYeah, imagine having a moral compass and not simply deciding you're gonna be a murderhobo and STILL keep your powers. Imagine having to roleplay being a chivalrous knight who puts others before himself and chooses the tougher, but better path.
5e Paladins are just fighters with extra fluff and shooty lasers.
lol imagine when 1st edition learns about the find steed and find greater steed spells lol
ОтветитьNgl, I like the concept of a paladin whose powers are tied to him being a certain alignment.
ОтветитьI would still consider 3.5 Paladins superior to 5th Edition considering all the prestige classes they can go into and Blackguards are waaaaaay scarier than the Oath Breakers.
Ответить1st ed Paladins have the moral high ground, they sacrifice so much power to even be a paladin.
ОтветитьYou could if just run the first 15 seconds of video and ended it there... It would of been amazing.
ОтветитьIm sorry but damn paladins then sucked compared to now
Ответить1e paladins: the way it should be.
Ответитьmy oath is to throw it back so i don't have to worry about being lawful good.
ОтветитьI'd still take a 1e Paladin over the skinsuit of a 5e Paladin any day.
ОтветитьWe need a 5th vs the 3.5.
ОтветитьWhat?
ОтветитьLosing your powers for oath breaking is way better than oathbreaker subclass. Oathbreaker should basically be you become a warlock subclass. Stripped of all holy power to become a warlock subclass.
ОтветитьAren't 5e paladins still at a disadvantage due to not being able to use holy magic if they break their oath? How will they still be able to heal if they don't have said oath? Also doesn't breaking the oath turn them evil? What if the player still wants to be morally good?
