Cars don’t seem to be getting any cheaper these days, and that’s precisely what makes the redesigned 2025 Nissan Kicks so exciting. Bigger and funkier than ever before, the new-gen Kicks replaces the prior generation in addition to Nissan’s erstwhile, slightly larger Rogue Sport, now offering more cargo room, refinement, tech and available all-wheel drive.

It’s a sharp-looking crossover made even more intriguing by Nissan’s liberal use of bright colors, alluringly odd angles and distinct design flourishes that move its smallest and most affordable SUV away from any semblance of a penalty box.

West Coast Bureau Chief Conner Golden got a crack at the latest Kicks in sunny Southern California, finding it to be a wonderfully funky and well-equipped — if slightly underpowered — urban commuter. However, is this enough to make it feel more “affordable” than “cheap?” You’ll have to watch the video to find out.

This car sorely needed this update. Buying a Nissan with a CVT is a gamble.

Nice styling but such low power means it’s an urban/suburban cruiser. Competes with a honda hrv but underpowered compared to a subaru crosstrek.

Love the new appearance! I'm just holding out for the turbo powered NISMO variant! Thanks for the review!

Fuel filler door does not lock, and the gas cap is spring loaded, like they use on race cars. It is non removable.
Nissan engineers and designers, what were you thinking?🤦‍♂️
Went to check out these 2025 models at my local dealership today, as they are finally trickling in.
Left the dealership quite disappointed.
The non locking fuel filler door is an automatic no go and a hard pass for me. I can't imagine what the designers and engineers were thinking.
