Excellent advice! This is applicable to how people changed how they looked at me as I started dressing up more frequently and embracing classic style within my personal life. I am sure that just like me, many people have gotten those annoying questions about funerals or weddings, but those will disappear over time, of course.

I always treal **ALL** comments on my attire as complements and respond as though they were. I find that nine times out of ten (if not more) even the negative ones quickly do turn into compliments if treated that that.

I don't get any negative comments for dressing up nicely. However I tend to dress nicely in a more sprezzatura kind of way with sport coats etc so it blends in a little more than wearing a 3pc business suit evwrywhere.

But I did start dressing in classic style as a rejection of t-shirts, cargo shorts, and hoodies.

Like it or not, buying all of that cheap, low quality garbage reduced the quality of available clothing for future generations. I think peer pressure would make these people that like cheap clothes start to introspect and hopefully they'd turn things around eventually.

If you want to be a well-dressed man, be a man! Sometimes that means listening to criticism and letting it go. Good vid. Keep at it!

I think that it must be hard for people who want to look nice but don't want dressing up to become their characteristic trait, a bit of a joke in their friend group and so on. Me, I embrace it so it's no problem.

Funnily enough, the first sports jacket that I consciously started wearing, with a tie at that, was supposed to emulate the drunk cop from Disco Elysium. A few years passed and I hardly have clothes that aren't elegant.

I have been following this channel for years.

Your style should be personal, no need to dress like a banker if you are not a banker. Show some creativity when dressing for yourself when not at the office.

Love the jacket. I've been picking up 'loud' check jackets for a couple of years now. Although I've got a thing about 1970's beige at the moment, so I swing between Russian gangster and geography teacher.
Hey, they're only threads ... do what you want 😊

This channel would be better if it incorporated the mixed tweeds style more. You can get away with mixed tweeds far more than any other old style and it just happens to look the best in my opinion. It has the widest situational range of any style in existence because it spans countryside and city, and it spans almost all informal to formal - just under black tie. If you don't want people commenting on what you're wearing, this is the most obvious choice, yet Gentleman's Gazette is fixated on city styles that have a far more narrow range of use.

My son bought a linnen jacket, his first. I told him to start dressing like a man and not line a teenager (he is 30) He is slowly switching from jeans to chinos, from hoodies to pullovers. He feels very attractive so I guess it is working. Karl Lagerfeld said a good day starts with the perfect white shirt.

I think of dressing well as a show of respect to everyone else. After all it’s them having to look at me, so they might as well see something reasonably put together. My two cents…

I love this video, I started my style journey at 15 years old, I was very hesitant at first but each month I got better and better and took the time and effort to investigate different styles and what goes with what. Now I’m 21 years old and each day I wear a collared shirt, tie, formal pants, formal shoes and a sports coat. I love wearing this and each morning I look forward to tying my tie and looking at myself like I have won a million dollars. I hope more people start to wear formal clothes in the future. From South Africa with love

It's great to see you develop a more natural and relaxed presenting style Ivan, with more personal stories thrown in, keep it up!

100% agree with no sarcastic remarks because the other is likely curious not malicious, I've struggled with this in the beginning too not knowing how to react but I always walked away feeling bad (about both the interaction and myself) when I said anything sarcastic.

I was at a Spoleto function back in the early oughts when I heard woman ask her husband 'why don't you dress more like him?'
I was wearing my favorite sports coat, an Alfred Dunhill, a yellowish beige with gold & blue windowpane (Lambswool, silk & linen) with brown linen trousers, purple micro check shirt & a navy knitted tie. The gentleman then taps me on the shoulder and asks me 'are you married?' No. 'Do you have any children?' No. He turns back to his wife & says 'that's why.'
We actually got into a nice conversation & I gave him some tips where he could find some good deals on men's attire. A good time was had by all.

For me wearing a kilt occasionally was the gateway drug. I started out wearing it with a t-shirt and combat boots, but fairly soon I wanted to dress it up a little nicer. After gradually getting used to dress shirts, neckties, waistcoats, and nice shoes, I also began frequently combining those with slacks for everyday wear at work. Soon I was buying sport jackets, fedoras and flat caps, more shoes, and accessories. Now it's an addiction.
Since I started out with kilts, I had already gone way past the point of feeling self-conscious. Now my coworkers just take it for granted that I dress nice, while many other townsfolk are still surprised when they see me. I enjoy the way I dress now and just wear whatever I feel like whenever I feel like it, regardless of what anyone else thinks. FWIW, I get a ton of smiles and compliments from elderly ladies, who clearly miss the way that men used to dress.

I'm sure you all probably wont care as much but I just wanted to say thanks for helping to keep my spirits up with these videos truly means a lot. As a gentleman close to his mid 30's now I continue to upgrade my wardrobe and much of it is because of this channel so I do thank you for the effort put into the uploads but most importantly for all the insight. By the way concerning my previous comment I did figure that Raphael wouldn't have a default jacket but was still curious to ask anyway:) To answer my own question for myself my go to for warm weather would be a Green Cotton sport coat and for cooler definitely a Wool Grey or Black and Blue check pattern which I've purchased from the Thrift store.

You are right, it is about confidence. The first time you dress up for no reason and just go out you will feel like an impostor or cosplayer. But give it time, don't be too self-conscious and you will get accustomed to it and soon enough your style is a natural part of you.
Also I applaud to you, Mr. Martinez, for your improvement in presentation style. You seem to speak much more slower and deliberately now with a nice addition of a personal touch. Quite pleasant to listen to your narration.

My mother would not even take the trash out unless she had fixed her hair and put makeup on. My grandparents dressed nicely to stay home and do housework. For them it was a matter of self-respect and respect for others. In doing likewise, I honor them.

I remember how it started for me. I came across a silver sports jacket and I really liked wearing it, so I kept doing it until it didn't fit any more. In the meantime I started wearing vests and it became my default outfit. Nice fancy tie knot (café knot) to top it off and a mechanical pocket watch my brother gifted me.

Bravo! I got interested in men's fashion during the early days of what has been called the Peacock Revolution. I just called it the Mod, or Carnaby St. Look. And I was only in Jr. High School! Fast forward three decades & I'm playing in a band whose schtick is to portray a 1930 era country band performing a radio show. This called for a study in Classic Men's Wear. And I got hooked again. The band came & went, but I still don a 3 pc. suit and still carry a pocket watch. I just feel right dressing up.
