These people need to be studied. Their brains are not working properly. Like there are so many reasons and there is no accepting fault.

After going through this debt I wonder if she'll have a good time on the cruise. I know I couldn't just thinking about the money I owe

There’s always a direct correlation between extreme debt and “it’s someone elses fault” victim mentality

The parents before the child admitted they never actually said they would pay off their debt:
“I’ve made some empty promises in my life but hands down that was the most generous.”

I'll never understand why people blame financial illiteracy on not being taught it. My parents are terrible with money but I'm doing better with it lol

I would like to put something into perspective for people like her…
I have largely been on my own since 14 years old and was not taught many life skills by my family before they dumped me in the world. I’m certainly not rich, but I don’t have any major debt at 29. Not everyone gets a golden ticket and you can’t blame that for your lack of education and experience. You just figure it out

This is insane. I would actually be in a mental hospital if I had that level of debt. I'd be 24/7 sick & id be afraid to make any purchase ever. I don't think her parents advised her the way she says that they did. Because if so, they would have opened cards in these kids names before they turned 18 and screwed the kids credit without them even knowing.

Car debt is the worst, as someone that loves cars. I have a combined $30k between two cars, and I can’t afford a house because of it.

I'm in my early 50's and had trouble with debt in my early twenties. Wife helped me get may s**t together, and I took it upon myself to learn some financial literacy. Now I have savings, 401k, some small investments, cars are paid off and quickly paying down our mortgage. We live well below our means, and it has taken so much stress out of my life. We can go on vacations, and splurge on our each other. If there’s an emergency, we have an emergency fund. We’re looking retirement in the face at our current ages, so we’re in a good position currently.

On the other hand, we have friends who are the same age, overcharge credit cards, have horrible credit, borrow money from friends and family, constantly borrow against the wife’s 401k. When asked why he doesn’t have a 401k, husband said he doesn’t make enough to pay into it. Husband is in an industry with constant layoffs. They always shop/order online, eat out, and order delivery. He has an expensive hobby, but refuses to sell any of the items, and won’t stop buying them. Will only stop buying when the credit cards are maxed. Both have health issues. They are a car problem, a layoff, or medical issue away from being destitute and/or homeless.

It's like watching a friend drown, and you have the life ring, but you can't throw it to them, or it wouldn't save them anyway.

While the young lady is ultimately responsible for her colossal debts, I actually believe her claims about her parents encouraging her and her siblings to borrow money for school instead of working. This mindset is borne out of sheer financial ignorance that spans generations. Older people are not necessarily wiser when it comes to personal finance. Some people genuinely don't know how credit, interest, amortization, etc. work. And the intergenerational consequences of said ignorance are devastating, as exemplified by the young lady being audited in this episode.

I honestly feel like she’s not going to take his advice…it’s obvious she would prefer to just ignore problems since it’s easier rather than deal with them…the fact that she kept bringing up her credit and refinance and bankruptcy/consolodation…she doesn’t know what she’s doing and is blinded by advice from People that have no idea what they’re doing
