Phuket Province, formerly known as Thongkoo and Thongkoupo by Chinese speakers and Bukit by Malays, is one of the 77 first-level administrative regions in Thailand. The prefectural government is Phuket City, which has the same name as the administrative region. The entire administrative area covers Phuket plus 32 outlying islands. Phuket is the largest island in Thailand, located in the Andaman Sea in southern Thailand. It is also the only island with its own independent first-level administrative division.
