I'm confused - throughout my life, I've heard a bunch of old-timers say "Working on Diesel Engines is a TOTALLY DIFFERENT WORLD than gas engines".

Watching this video, apart from...
1. A <much> higher-pressure fuel delivery line.
2. No spark plugs (with glow plugs serving a distantly-related role, but only at startup)

...I don't really see how diesel engines are so 'different' than their gasoline counterparts 🤔
Can anyone fill in the details here, or were the old-timers just talking out of their bums?
