ОтветитьThe Finnish settlers in the USA is fascinating. I was also always fascinated by German Settlers in Texas. Specifically the New Braunfels area.
ОтветитьMacedonians that are descended from soldiers in Alexander's army that are in Pakistan and Afghanistan. That would be intertsting.
ОтветитьNot "LEV-ant" but "Le-VAHNT". Not "YOU-ralick" but "Oo-RALick". Oh, I can't keep up with your mistakes. "Mam-locks" -- really? Please, study these words before pronouncing them. Your mis-pronunciations are painful to hear.

ОтветитьLove your videos. I am a historian/ geographer and your skill at making this interesting is without equal!
I could add a few enclaves that supersized me as well. (1) The Basques if California (2) the Mestisos of Mexico (an Orthodox Jewish community (3) a Turkish town where the people claim they are of Pathinian heritage and speak an ancient form of Arabic and Aramaic. They likely came from Syria (4) a Walloon enclave in Belgium where fewer than two dozen speakers still live and the Norse-Turks in Istanbul - a leftover of King Hardrada’s commission in the Vangaurian Guard.
Perhaps you can verify this interesting story as well. There are said to be as many as 100,000 Jews still living in Iran today. They were the remnant of those who chose to stay rather that go across desert and v rebuild. What day you???
what happened to “oh we have a visitor” ? let’s celebrate
ОтветитьI don’t know what enclaves mean . sounds different different
ОтветитьWhat about Akaroa, the French settlement in New Zealand?
ОтветитьIt is written as Jász and pronounced as yaass. Some linguists say their Hungarian name comes from íjász, eyaass, meaning archer. The Hungarian word cserkész, pronounced as cherkass, meaning scout, comes from the name circassian. Circassians served as military scouts and they may have settled in Hungary with the Magyars or with the Jász.
There are also Hungarians in Lebanon since the 1200s. Some towns and region's names have Hungarian origin. There is a now dried out lake bed that is called Balaton as in lake Balaton in Hungary.
There are also the Kun (Cuman) people of Hungary. They were originally Kipchak Turk from the Golden Horde who settled in Hungary around the 1200s. They retained their turkic tongue until the early 1800s. Around that time Hungary became a melting pot and the Kun adopted the Hungarian language and assimilated into modernity. I'm a descendant of the Kun. In Hungary, there are many regions, towns, geographical place names contain the name Kun. There are also place names that contain Tatar and a distinct regional accent that is reminiscent of the way Tatars pronounce their own language.
There is a tribe in Kazakhstan descending from the Magyar.
Magyar kings were exhumed, dna recovered and tested and results show they were descended from Northern Afghanistan, known as Bactria back in antiquity.
Bin Laden's right hand man, Hekmatyar, comes from this northern tribe that is still there up to this day. His name makes a lot of sense to a Hungarian speaker. Hétmagyar would be the modern equivalent.
You also should have mentioned diaspora Hungarians in surrounding countries, making Hungarians the largest minority in Europe. Although, they did not move, the borders did.
Nem felejtünk.
Some other interesting ones are the Koryo-Saram of Central Asia (descendants of Koreans deported to Central Asia by Stalin), the Moghol people of Afghanistan (descendants of Mongolians who settled there under Genghis Khan), the Kikapu of Mexico (descendants of an Algonquin tribe from what is now considered the Midwestern US), the Garifuna of Central America (only surviving speakers of the Kalinago language of the Lesser Antilles), Kazakhs of Gansu, Uyghurs of Hunan, Kyrgyz of Heilongjiang, Dungans of Central Asia, Arboreshe of Italy, etc
ОтветитьThere are too many, among the many you mention some: the Javanese in Suriname, the Hmong in French Guiana. The many enclaves in Belize. For example the Garifuna in Belize and the coast of Honduras and Nicaragua. The Mennonites in Chihuahua,Mexico ,in Belize and in Paraguay, etc.
ОтветитьI'm an Indian from Trinidad, a Caribbean country where Indians are an ethnic majority. We all descend from indentured laborers brought from all over India by the British to the Caribbean to work, however it was really a ruse as they were treated like absolute shit (imagine slavery 2.0). We struggled, gained independence, and now we're here, though not much people know about it.
Even in India they don't really know about us, as the Indian government has gone to great lengths to cover it up from mainstream light.
