Gaming with 4GB of RAM in 2022...

Im using a 3090ti and 4gb of ram,cause my 32gb gskill are in service. The rgb on one module died after 1 week.

The computer can use ram as vram when you don't have enough, but can it use vram as normal ram ? I guess not since it's called vram but i'll still ask

There is just one problem. Most people who still own just 4GB RAM have Intel Integrated Graphics and an I5 3rd or 4th gen.

4gbs is still fine in almost any linux distro assuming you use a particularly light desktop environment or with a window manager for just like browsing the web, light gaming, and coding/using office software. Particularly if you have a dedicated GPU so you don't have to give up 128-500mbs of system memory for the apu/igpu.

In the first world, there is NO excuse for 4GB in ANY PC, but manufacturers still do it in low end laptops, and it needs to stop. The only things that should have 4GB is SBCs, cheaper phones/tablets, and anything else that's purpose built and doesn't need much (like routers, small NASs, IoT devices...).

I wonder how older games with a older CPU would do, more so with the RAM in dual channel instead of single channel as with this test. I have a slim/SFF Acer prebuilt that I plan on upgradeing to sell for basic use and some older games (like games that came out in the PS3 era). Currently it got a Pentium E6600 though I have a Core 2 Quad Q9400 laying around, for RAM both the slots on the board are occupied with a 2x2GB (4GB) kit of DDR3 1333MHz that i'll likely replace with a faster 2x4GB kit if needed though may just skip upgrading RAM and stick with 4GB (dual channel) for it to help reduce costs before putting it up for sale. Currently don't have a dedicated GPU (only intergrated in the form of the Intel GMA X4500) but would need to be something low profile, I'm leaning towards something like a GT 1030 or something older that would still be capable of getting at least 30FPS average at 720p in games from 2013-2014 such as GTAV, Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition, Tomb Raider (2013) & Sims 4 along with some online games such as War Thunder and Final Fantasy XIV.

i remember those times when 4 gigs were a good decision in 2014 and it was enought for almost everything and as i can see the cyberpunk 2077 turned out to be a good optimized game to work with such amount of RAM.
