I think it's because cats have terrible object permanence. So they think some physics breaking object is now dumping ungodly amounts of food out and could probably swallow it whole

Fun fact: if you do this in C and allocate large amounts of memory with malloc() in the while loop you will get infinite ram for free. Bonus points if you also also do pthread_create() for infinite cpu threads, and fopen(random_string, "w") for infinite storage!
