My grandpa was a Greek soldier in WW2. He didn't want to go he was just 29 years old. Anyway one day when he was fighting my grandpa found a German soldier in snow and put him out of the snow and he wore him his jacket because some of the soldiers didn't want Germans (to not recognized him from the german symbol). So he put him in his bed and told him not to talk after a long time my grandpa went back to his village and had the German soldier with him they were really good friends even they didn't speak the same language!!!!! When he was about to go back to his country he gave to my grandpa an adress and German showed to him that he want to visit him in Germany... my grandpa didn't go but 3 years before I went to this adress and find him he was really old but he remembered my grandpa he told as that if there wasn't this Greek he could die in the snow... then he told to his son to give as the jacket and when he gave it he told me you look exactly like him whats your job? I told him that i am studying to become a military doctor and he cried i asked him why and he said and your grandpa was too! He told ³ to ware the jacket when a war start and be like my grandpa.
Ответитьthe mutineeres were subdued only by Greek volunteered sailors and officers, the british didnt intervened and were only for back up if the greek "agema emvolis" didnt succedd.
ОтветитьSome Greek ships participated on D-Day too
ОтветитьVery nice video, but Greek navy operations did not stop with the Communist Mutiny in Alexandria. The Greek navy did not restrict its operations in the Aegean Sea, but also participated in the landing operations in Italy and convoys to Malta. The Greek destroyer Queen Olga led the Allied ships in the Italian naval base of Taranto during the surrender of the Italian fleet. It was later sunk by Stukas in Leros island during the operations of the Dodecanese. There were ships of the Greek navy participating in the Atlantic Convoys to Russia and also two corvettes took part in the Normandy landings.
The Greek fleet returned to Greece in October 1944, when the Germans left from mainland Greece, but operations in the Aegean Sea continued against German occupied islands all the way until the end of WW2.
Excuse me. You need 18 ships to make 3305 trips between Greece and Italy in 6 months time, while the war lasted. The Greek submarines sunk 7 plus one. That is almost half the ships needed for the job destroyed.
Also, you forgot to mention that the Greek fleet bombarded italian army positions in Albania.
Moreover, no Greek ship was lost to the mighty italian navy or air force.
Elli was torpedoed 3 months before the war was declared in peace time when it was anchored at Tinos Island on the independence day celebrations of Greece 15th Aug 1940.
As for the luftwaffe that came down later, the British Navy lost way more warships (cruisers and destroyers) than the Greek Navy as well as submarines and an aircraft carrier, and these losses were the worst losses the royal navy ever had in a single engagement period.
Greece fought continuously from 28th Oct 1940 to 2nd July 1941. And then parts of the army along with navy and some flying squadrons fled to Egypr and continued the war alongside the allies I north africa and italy. The 3rd mountain brigade took the city of Rimini from the German paratroopers
Thank you 😍😍😍
