Horror movies are by far my favorite genre of films and I would LOVE to see you react to more. Possibly The Conjuring franchise as they have a ton of incredible movies, along with branching films such as the Anabelle films and The Nun which are amazingly spooky. 💜

Fun fact: the smiles that were done in this film are actually natural. He didnt want to use CGI because of how silly they used the CGI in Truth or Dare for the smiles.

This movie really grossed me out at the end, when it took all if it's skin off.

The smile of the lady scared we WAY more than the exorcist for some reason

It’s messed up because the girl she saw kill herself is now haunting her; scary premise and def a psychological fuck

The trailer of this film made it seem like this was going to be a silly movie that we'd laugh at. ...then we watch it and see that yes, it's silly, but we were NOT laughing. The screams in the theater were insane and I was pleasantly surprised how genuinely scary this movie was. =)

I just watched this tonight. I (usually) don't get scared from movies. Insidious, Conjuring, Sinister... piece of cake. This freaking terrified me. Heart racing pretty much the whole time. I'm not sure why this one got me.

The placement of the jumpscare "Rose" was sooo good that even though you predict that something sinister might happen, you still remain vulnerable and try to focus on screen. The timing of that jumpscare is brilliant coz people are concentrated on scene, trying to hear the voice the same as Rose, and suddenly the jumpscare. I am a fan of jumpscares but this jumpscare was the best byfar.

Never knew this movie existed TBH. Should have watched earlier! Knew those license plates looked familiar! Filmed in my state. Honestly I agree with Rob (and lots of commenters and critics tho) that they kinda ruined it by the second half with the demon thing. The elongated lady on fire and the smile demon's face looks absolutely ridiculous like an 80s claymation (which can be scary but only in like appropriate settings and IMO the first half AINT matching with it) and it destroyed the immersion and terror for me personally. I would re-make this movie and leave the first half mostly the same and left the "smile" as an invisible entity or representation of extreme psychological trauma. Which IMO was WAYY more effective in the first half before they went too far and did too much. Prime example of why something like Hereditary is do damn unsettling, highly reviewed, and has a far greater impact than a movie like this. TBF, also Ari Aster is an incredible director and his attention to detail is great (tho I wanna see a 3hr directors cut with the hour of footage A24 made him cut from it, some scenes which were chopped make the story hit even harder IMO by making the fam even more relatable than they already were). TLDR: less is sometimes more with horror, and this had a great start as a sort of VERY disturbing psychological horror that COULD have been an absolute Hereditary level smash hit, IF they hadn't did what they did with the CGI monster. IDK if Smile 2 actually came out or is coming out this yr? haven't seen anything, but I'd like to see a take on this plot line with a more Hereditary/Black Swan like psychological/disturbing angle rather than palpitation inducing sound jumpscares (and I agree with Bryce on this one, one or two in a movie is fine but this kinda overused it IMO where its just kinda stressful but not so much scary).
