That these life forms live in this environment does not means that this environment created these life forms. Uncontrolled energy, such as heat from a vent is destructive to order and gain in complexity. Only energy under intelligent control can create order and a gain in complexity. How does a thermal vent create a walking motor protein?
ОтветитьI love that shirt
Ответитьnano structures?! like omg it must replace god
ОтветитьI've always wanted to do a kind of Miller–Urey experiment, but focused on hydrothermal vents. Obtain fresh basaltic lava from someplace like Hawaii (my understanding is basaltic lava is most likely the type found as the heat source to hydrothermal vents) and place it in a sealed, sterile quartz tube with water (could just be distilled to start) where one side can be heated (under the sort of pressure expected to find at the bottom of early Earth oceans) and the other side cooled (where 'cool' might be substantially higher than the frigid waters now adjacent to the vents) so there are substantial temperature gradients across the basalt. There should be a mixing current from the water heating on one side and cooling on the other and the fractured basalt should create all sorts of micro-environments where interesting chemistry could happen. Cook for various periods of time (and potentially with various early seawater analogues (and dissolved atmospheres)) and see what sorts of things arise and how long it takes. It feels like a fairly inexpensive set of experiments to do - once you have access to molten lava (though, I guess, in principle, you could attempt to create your own) - and I suspect in as little as a few days there'd be some interesting results. And let some versions run for a few years to see if the variety increases even more.
ОтветитьDon't forget that the vents occur in recycled land masses. They could have come from anywhere. It's just recycled carbon.

ОтветитьAmazing Universe - We need to build a Moonbase to show Humanities Ingenuity
ОтветитьYes life originated in thermal vents. Sorry no aliens.
ОтветитьThank you .. super as always
ОтветитьGonna make a Universe Battery like Rick :D
ОтветитьAre the reason claims of science capable of finding the “origin” of life? I think the question is similar to this one: is an atheist the only one who can find God?
In other words whose unbiased approach to the question would constitute the only valid reason to accept the answer?
I suppose someone who could bring the dead back to life would be someone who possessed the secret to the origin of life. Would knowing how to bring anything “back to life” also answer the question of the “purpose of life”? That European girl’s book “Frankenstein”, had something to say about that.
Without a purpose to life is the origin of life unanswerable? In other words what kind of scientist discovers the purpose of things? Isn’t that the kind of scientist able to discover the origin of life?
Is an atheist the only valid thinker capable of finding the purpose of things; or the least valid thinker to find the purpose of things?
Who is best equipped to find the reason to being? Not the kinds of beings that exist, not what exists; but why existence? What is the reason for existence? “Why is there something rather than nothing?”
That's wild, who would've ever thought.😮
ОтветитьDNA does a fantastic job of pointing to the origin of light.
ОтветитьFlowing water generating energie....those pyramids with that water beneath it and those weird elektric properties. Na it's just an tomb build in 20 years right? Time to trust sience again. Let me roll up my sleeve......😢
ОтветитьDear Anton, making funny faces on the video presentation picture does not fit you as well as the style of your channel...
ОтветитьNot sure if Anton got a new editor but the thumbnails are new and glorious.
ОтветитьSurely you are a big enough channel, to not have to pull funny faces on your thumbnail pic, as if you were some random reacter channel
ОтветитьIf those are the conditions life on europa and enceladus would be possible.
Ответить"UNEXPECTED!" ... except for the paper predicting two decades ago?
ОтветитьExcellent, unsurprising - thank you
Ответитьthe most wonderful thumbnail ever. More of these!
ОтветитьI love the dramatic thumbnail 😂
ОтветитьHow Biologists Explain Evolution:
0. Four billions years ago there was a slimy pond
1. Shit happened
2. First cell formed in a slimy pond
3. Shit happens
4. Five hundred million years ago: all species appear at once
5. Even more shit happens
6. Three million years ago: monkeys appear
7. Really good shit happens
8. One hundred thousand years ago: humans appear
Sounds similar to Wilhelm Reich's theory of "bions"...
ОтветитьSome 3 000 000 000 years ago, Earth's crust was much thinner due to not having had enough time to get thick. We can expect that there where MUCH more thermal vents back then.
ОтветитьIt seems to me that given the most common elements in the Universe contained in conditions on Earth, life is inevitable. Multiple fluids with variations* in unstable contact with each other. *clines of temperature, salinity, mineralization, pressure, gravity, magnetism ... all of which influence amino, gene-strings, protein production and expression
ОтветитьThank you for explaining new discoveries in a way that ordinary people can understand. You make science accessible and interesting
ОтветитьPlz stop the weird faces in the thumbnails
Ответить❤Thank you so much. This is huge. I am looking forward to the follow-up articles and videos on this topic.
ОтветитьGreat Sabine Face!!
ОтветитьI propose that some of those structures, particularly the active ones, may actually constitute a very simple and basic form of life.
ОтветитьSus vent
Ответитьthere are good probabilities Europa hides life..!
ОтветитьDavid Attenborough has covered this….. look it up .Thanks Anton for revisiting this subject👍
ОтветитьOkay now that I’ve gotten past Anton’s new man scruff (💯💯), I’ve watched this video an excessive amount of times (for its content instead of the rugged man saying words on my screen! 😅) Holy moly is this exciting. Wondering if my decades-long hope to find the origin of life here on earth might actually come true in our lifetimes - it’s something I can remember thinking about from the time I was a very young girl. What an insanely random stroke of luck we all have to live in an era with such mind bending discoveries and scientific advancements. Here’s to keeping the hope alive!
ОтветитьHydrothermal Vents, Alkali Vents: the potential for life to originate at either is, generously, precisely zero percent.
Ответитьlife moving 20,000 ft down, small creatures living under all that pressure. plus a new form of energy.
ОтветитьMind-blowing. A vent of ideas.
ОтветитьSo we need to get our butts back to Enceladus, or maybe Europa. There is strong evidence Enceladus has something like this going on. All we need to do is fly through the geysers with the right equipment and we could find ET!
ОтветитьGood reminder that we’re PART of the planet earth. We don’t live on it. We’re part of it.
ОтветитьA little reminder: Those crabs and tubeworms live under pressures around 4 times higher than on the surface of Venus.
ОтветитьI enjoy your videos very much.
ОтветитьThe thumb nail😅😅😅😅
ОтветитьDigging the new thumbnails.
ОтветитьI wonder if, in the distant past, there were hydrothermic vents in the neritic zone.
ОтветитьPSA: thumbnails are different because Google broke my thumbnail generator plugin because they started blocking some kind of a script it uses.
Until it gets fixed I'm going to go with goofy face thumbnails :D
