Oh wow. Thanks
ОтветитьIt degases the beans addingabout 1,teas while cooking😊
ОтветитьOld trick my mother taught me many many years ago. Bless her for now she is with the Lord. I was lucky to have her as a mother and she was wise beyond her years. Taught me so much😊❤
ОтветитьI heard baking soda makes the beans tough and can seal in the phytic acid
ОтветитьThank you so much' I cook Dry beans and the can said' good for 25 years' I boil them and they boiled for 8 hours and they never got soft' thank you many blessings to you
ОтветитьWell for the one that's calling people ignorant ' I bet you learn from someone else ' stop acting like you are the best peace of pie' we all have the right to ask'
ОтветитьThis is a fabulous tip! Thank you! I have 40 gallons of beans stored…”for a rainy day”…
I did not know they would not soften…now I need to make sure I stock up some Baking soda as well. Hahah
After they soak in the baking soda over night..drain them and add fresh clean water to cook them in….right?
ОтветитьExactly. When you add baking soda it changes the ph of the water which allows the cell membranes on the beans to expand and open up and swell the interior of the bean. Just some nerdy science facts lol😅
ОтветитьSitting here and just came across this as 8 qts of old dried beans are in my canner! I wonder how old is old! 🤔 Hmmmm Mine are about 2-3 years old. Well, maybe they'll turn out! Next time I'll know! 😂. Thanks for the tip!!
ОтветитьI have a bowl of beans right now that's been soaking overnight (12 hours) and still a little hard. I just added the baking soda!
ОтветитьLove that she shared this trick! Going to try it tonight!
Ответитьthis is a need to know tip! Thanks for sharing
ОтветитьMy mom used to do that. Great advice. I always wondered why she ordered us to put a pot of beans overnight 😅
ОтветитьYou can cook them in a pressure cooker. Will cook even if you don't do the overnight baking soda. I'm Haitian and it's a staple in most Haitian households. Those who don't have one, borrow
ОтветитьWhy baking soda?
ОтветитьThanks
ОтветитьThanks for the tip. I'm trying to cut down on my meat consumption so beans are a great protein alternative. My late Mom told me to never season the beans with salt until after they've softened as the sodium will draw out any moisture in the beans. I'll give the baking soda trick a try 👍
ОтветитьThanks for that, the lord knows...Every Bean. Counts!
ОтветитьSo if you do use the old beans … they won’t make you sick or anything???? I have several glass containers with various beans… pretty well sealed…no doubt years old.. should I go ahead and use them, of course over a period of time, OR toss them… which seems such a waste it🤷🏼♀️. And thank you for any input👍🏻‼️😁
ОтветитьI’ve never heard that tip before. Thank you so much for sharing! We eat a lot of beans around here
Ответитьwhats the longest youve stores your beans ?
ОтветитьCan't you just soak them in water for 24-48 hours? Are they still hard with that method?
ОтветитьOh yes they will get softer after the right amount of time to cook on low heat add onions garlic & add the salt at the end of cooking time or ur beans will shrink my Mexican momma always did it this way never a bad batch of frijoles beans 🫘
ОтветитьSucks out lots of the vitamins. Only do it when necessary.
ОтветитьAdd No salt until after cooking the beans until they are soft.
ОтветитьGreat information!!! I also just learned (tonight) and why I found your short about sprouting beans for better nutrition! I wonder if that would work on old beans that we soaked over night with baking soda???? Do you know?
ОтветитьI'm guessing in a dire situation a person could re-use the baking soda water if they didn't have an abundance of baking soda.
ОтветитьSo after soaking with the baking soda do i rinse that out the next day?
Ответить❤
ОтветитьWrong baking soda depletes the nutritional value out of it, makes the body not absorbs the nutritional factors in beans and it strips your system of the nutrition
ОтветитьHumm. Now you tell me here at supper time 😊. Glad that I really like mine on the crunchy side 😂!
ОтветитьThank you, I needed this tip
ОтветитьThank you! 🙏🏼
ОтветитьYou can pressure cook also...hot pot works ! Soak at least overnight...be sure to drain soak water or get tummy upset ( and a LOT of gas ) BB from somewhere in Louisiana USA 🤠
ОтветитьMy gosh, thankyou for that tip. I thought to grind them up and make refried beans with old beans.
ОтветитьI wish I had known this yesterday. I’m already cooking the beans ☹️. For future reference, how much baking soda should you add to the beans when soaking them?
ОтветитьI’m grateful I saw this before I returned my pressure cooker! 😅
ОтветитьI also heard this helps cut down on gas. 😉👍
ОтветитьMy old beans still have a bitter taste though.
ОтветитьHi, I put dried red kidney beans in a tightly closed bucket 5yrs ago. Will they still be OK to eat?
ОтветитьI honestly have no idea what you're talking about. I literally cooked a batch yesterday and they were soft. Didn't add anything.
ОтветитьThey've been cooking - will it work if I add a little baking soda now? And continue cooking?
ОтветитьDoes it effect the taste❤
ОтветитьThank you :)
ОтветитьI bet I could put them in my Insta pot pressure cooker and they'd cook fine.
The best beans I've ever eaten. Salt, vinegar and a little sugar and bbq sauce after they've cooked.
I was looking for someone that's actually roasted dried beans like coffee beans are roasted to bring out different taste and then cooked them.
I guess I'm the first...🤷♀️
Can you taste the baking soda when it's done? Someone told me to add it to them while they were cooking, and I didn't like the taste much.
ОтветитьYou get the same exact effect with out Baking soda. I've ore soaked my beans for chilli all my life. All you need is all natural water. All your doing ingredients dehydrating them
ОтветитьAre they safe to eat
Ответить
