Apple M5 Generation: What to Expect!

Please Apple, don't give the M5 to the iPad first, it's just unnecessary

I feel the need for speed! And longer battery life.

I reckon M5 will be focused on efficiency gains.

Better efficiency is fine but I would prefer more memory, 256GB to work w/even larger LLMs/LVMs, and more GPU cores 42 or more on the M5 Max.

M4 Mac mini is a great deal, until you upgrade any of the specs, then its really isn't, thats my hope for the M5, respectable upgrade prices, doubt that will happen though.

M5?!?!? Are you not EVER satisfied? Jeeeez, Stop being so hungry and actually learn how to use what ya have!

Given that M4 is another refinement on 3nm die, and TSMC already has begun trial production of 2nm... I would guess that M5 will be on 2nm for M4 by October of next year, and then in M4 Pro and M4 Max the following spring, and the next optimization focused refinement will be in the M6... (small chips first, so iPhone, iPad Pro, and MacBook Air in fall of next year). Apple does tend to get the leading edge of a new node booked up (the volume of M* chips is dwarfed by A* required by Phones - so it should be fine doing all the small chips in succession in second half of next year).

Now super glad that I paid an extortionate amount of money to upgrade my M1 Pro MacBook Pro to 32GB of unified memory back in 2021 as it’s still keeping up with whatever I throw at it.

While M4 Pro is pretty tempting, I’ll likely hold off upgrading until there’s a significant redesign, M6 maybe?

So if Apple wants a lot of money would they, make a self driving car? Vision goggles? Single chips that take NVIDIA's business away? Hmmmm, let's see...

I'm buying that A5 if it has just power cores and more GPU cores, What;s the point of having efficiency cores in a 25W device? There's plenty of room for a beefier low rev fan and the entire housing could be used as a heat sink as well. I also want another on/off button on the keyboard and monitor.

I heard the M5 will debut in a new 27” iMac. Ok, no I didn’t, but a guy can dream.

The biggest improvement Apple can make is cutting the price of their RAM and SSD upgrades by at least 50%. Efficiency improvements would be great, as would performance improvements, but few users would benefit from those much.

I‘m not much interested in the M5 as I‘ve just ordered a Mac mini M4 pro. So my next Apple hardware most likely will be a new iPhone next year and a laptop (M6 air) in 2026.

After a couple decades using Adobe I switched to Affinity a couple years ago, replacing Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign with Photo, Designer, and Publisher. It’s a bit of a learning curve, but now that I’m accustomed to it I love their products. It’s a single purchase payment with free upgrades. Oh, and they’re also available on iPad.

Let’s not talk about the M5.

Their prices for RAM and storage are pure extorsion.
