My 22 year old Citroen is amazing, I love and take good care of it, and hopefully I'll never be forced by law to change it.

I'm a car enthusiasts because I'm mechanically inclined. Don't care much for the specs, nor the looks. Just love seeing unique innovation and insane ideas. One thing I don't understand (AS A GREEN PARTY MEMBER) is the push for electric cars. Lithium batteries are terrible, extremely destructive, and if you're going to charge the car from a coal power plant, whats the point?

I think there should be more commercially available diesel commute cars. Had a family friend who modded his commute car to take diesel. Not only does it pretty much not burn fuel when idling, but he also MAKES HIS OWN DIESEL! He just gets old fry grease from restaurants and does his magic and turns it into completely renewable energy from what would otherwise be waste. Why are we falling for the EV versus gas argument? Normalize diesel!

Honestly all this panic about gas like oh what will happen well if you have the skill convert your car to Propane gas then continue driving them I mean Pick up truck enthusiast have done it before and some today and some Vintage cars once used Propane I am not worried and third they won't take the antique law away Museums and many other organizations count on them even the Rose bowl parade witch makes a lot of money and with how California is doing right now they will not mess with money makers.

Sadly vintage law in a lot of states just pushes the inspection dates further away, here in Colorado it goes from every 2 years to every 4 years, it still has to pass emissions and meet safety standards, they also limited them to only being able to be driven less than 2000 miles a year, if you go over that then they are now a commuter car and will be inspected every 2 years.

Here in Paraguay we don’t got any emissions laws but, you can’t legally drive RHD cars unless they’re 1960s or older (1961 model year or newer and you’re screwed) so you’re obligated to make it LHD, so for example JDM cars from the 90s like Nissan Skylines (never sold as LHD) you gotta perform a conversion to legally get it registered; never understood why they haven’t updated it, because those conversions are legal not regulated and 90% of the time poorly done, most of the times they’d just take the steering rack, cut the mounts, flip them and resolder them, making them weak specially for our road conditions

There are cars that have their LHD version that obviously have the chance of being properly converted with OEM parts, like Aristos, Supras, Subarus, etc. but even then it’s still ridiculous that we can’t have them as they came out

the state I live in doesn't even have emissions testing, which is great for those wanting to buy older cars that aren't quite considered "vintage" but are old enough to not meet current emissions standards. it means you don't have to go through the expensive process of updating it to match those standards, meaning older cars are more accessible for those that want to get one

I'm all for protecting the environment, don't get me wrong, but i also think people should be allowed to drive what they want to. most people will probably choose an EV as time goes on (which also aren't that great for the environment due to production and disposal of their batteries), because they don't care for the things we gearheads enjoy about the combustion engine

I was never concerned about the "subscription car". People will just start selling plug and play harnesses that bypass the system to allow these features to be used because, like you said, they are already installed because if they don't install them, they can't charge you.

I don't hope the Right to Repair stays the same, I want it to be much harder, especially in the EU where I live. I'm kind of worried about what will happen when a matrix headlight breaks down and think that maintenance of such a basic things like headlights ALWAYS must be some how easy to do at home. And a ban on subsciptions should absolutely be passed in all of EU, not despite but BECAUSE we have some really bad offenders here!

I really wished people would hang onto their cars more because you tend to grow a bond and learn more about your car once you own it for years. It’s that attitude of feeling the need to have the newest thing that I find is becoming more common

The right to repair is most infamous in tractors, farm equipment and hauling trucks. Things like windows and doors were made out of flat glass, any shop could order some and cut out the right shape, and get you back to work in a few hours. Now, the windows and glass are made to very weird, very specific curves and shapes, such that the only way to get it to fit proper is to order from the company, which is of course priced at 5x or more what the total cost it would be to have a repair shop do it with flat glass.

The supposed reason for these changes? Aerodynamics. On a tractor that is moving 6 miles an hour towing 15 tons worth of equipment, aerodynamic drag is not just negligible, it is almost nonexistent in the total calculations.
