Does it really matter if you drill a bit deeper than the bolts? Since when you tighten the nuts up they retract anyway rather than push into

The hoop I bought came with small screws and rawlplugs, and the hoop fell off the wall soon after my grandson starting hitting it with the ball. Could you tell me what the size of those bolts is please? I looked in B&Q but couldn't see them. Many thanks.
