Thumbs down, no integrity, no due diligence, no respect to the viewers or their time. DONT WATCH THIS, 2 DIFFERENT CPUs WERE USED, RESULTS ARE INCONCLUSIVE!!!
THIS TEST IS CONTAMINATED, AND ANY OBSERVATIONS ARE CONSEQUENTLY INVALID!
DO NOT TAKE AWAY ANY CONCLUSION FROM THIS!!

I could really use your advice, sage, wisdom & experience! I have a pc using a gigibyte GA-970A-DS3P motherboard. I just bought a newer faster graphics card, but I didn't realize that my PCI express is 2.0 and the graphics card is a 3.0. Will I notice a difference in quality or performance? Is it worth upgrading my motherboard at this time? If you think I should replace/upgrade my motherboard, what would you recommend? The form factor for my existing motherboard is: ATX Form Factor; 30.5cm x 21.5cm. I am not an online video gamer. I play a few games from Steam... nothing exotic. Thank you in advance for your assistance!

I have ivy Bridge processor coming soon so my graphics card will run more powerfully for games like cod cold war, or assassins creed, it seems if you have pcie3 your system uses less resources like ram or processing but enhances gpu resources.

My Asus H81M-D motherboard specifications say it has
1 x PCIe x16 slot
2 x PCIe 2.0 x1 slot

What any of those even mean lol

But I've been using GTX 1070 on this motherboard for 2~ years now so idk if I should be worry about performance or not
(I'm planning to change my i5 4460 to i7 4790k and 8GB>16GB ram)
Edit:So I now know my GTX 1070 is probably installed on that one PCIe 1.0 x16 slot, is there a significant impact on performance from this?

Not a fair test, the Haswell has at least 10% more IPC. I've just done my own test which at the moment is inconclusive but at least I can say either the PCIe 2.0 or i5 Haswell in my Optiplex is bottlenecking the card once it's overclocked. I've got an i7 and a board with PCie 3.0 to play with later and see what happens.

I get that pcie 2 rig has less powerful cpu, which would obviously result in less fps but who would use pcie 2 (older mobo, thus older cpu socket) if they have pcie 3 mobo+cpu? Or using pcie lanes to nvme drive is akin to pcie 2?

Takeaway: Don't sweat it at 1440p. And the performance delta between PCIe 3.0 x16 & 2.0 x16 would be even more negligible at 1080p.

I have a Pegatron 2AC2 H61 motherboard running with an "ancient" intel Sandy Bridge i7-2700K 3.5 - 3.9 GHz CPU (no overclock), along with 2x8GB DDR3-1333 sticks of Kingston HyperX RAM (again, no overclock), running an EVGA nVidia GTX-1070 8GB Black Edition GPU in a PCIe 2.0 x16 slot, runs just great at 1080p on an HP 27wm IPS flatscreen monitor @ 75Hz. Gets a Unigine Superposition score of 3423 at 1080p Extreme setting. I'm actually thinking of upgrading to a Zotac GTX-1080 ti SC 11GB, which is competitive with an nVidia RTX-2070 8GB - (just no ray tracing - no big deal. RTX is way overrated anyway).

It doesn't make me superhappy, but apparently either my mainboard or graphics card is dying, and reducing PCIe is one attempt to improve stability. Already seems to last longer, or at all. Maybe fewer lanes skips some lanes, or anything else, that are "broken". Easily beats iGPU for as long as I wait for a new system.
(I also allowed PCIe to wake up the system, in case after a simple crash the card could recover without Bluescreen, as long as it's allowed. And a couple of other, more random settings.)

The only difference you are seeing is between the 2 platforms. You need the same CPU to test this properly.
