ОтветитьHe had the distinction of being the main character in Samuel Beckett's only film.
I don't know where to find Streets of New York and Free and Easy.
Very good. Joe Ramoni you're a good guy to make this, thanks
ОтветитьKeaton had so many great silent films. My absolute favorite, which I didn't catch a glimpse of in this retrospective, was "Sherlock Jr." though I also love "The Boat", "The General" and yes even "The Cameraman".
ОтветитьFrom its inception hollywood has been trash.
ОтветитьMaybe buster didnt want the oppurtunity.
Why was this written like you knew he was being held back with no real evidence of that?
Bit disingenuous
Thank you!
ОтветитьI've been a fan of Keaton's silent films for most of my life, but kept away from most of the sound ones. This was very eye-opening. Great video!
ОтветитьLosing artistic control over one's work does seem like utter psychological torture to me.
ОтветитьThis is a great video! If anyones interested more in this era or the life of buster, his autobiography is pretty great for that!
ОтветитьI love his voice😍
ОтветитьSo sad. I wish he hadnt signed with them. I adore him ❤ Love his little cameo in Mad Mad World!
ОтветитьI distributed to TV the library of Educational Films Two-Reel comedies to TV stations in the 90’s and early 2000’s. They were a tough dale, but I was happy to have access to the Keaton shorts. They were badly written and produced.
ОтветитьIts makes me really sad that he went from being credited as "Buster" Keaton to Buster Keaton
ОтветитьThank you for an excellent overview of this phase of Buster's career!
ОтветитьLovely stuff. Thank you.
ОтветитьThanks for this retrospective. How about a list of the movies so we can track them down & watch them? I am glad that you included "The Railrodder". Although it have sound, Mr. Keaton never talked during the film short.
ОтветитьSome of this analysis is pure opinion…what you may not like audiences may have loved
ОтветитьHis voice is better than I expected ngl. Would have made a very interesting character these days.
ОтветитьLove his chemistry with Cliff Edwards
ОтветитьHow come there was no mention of the Beach movies? He was an integral part of the movies in which he was in and spoke in most if not all of the ones he was in.
ОтветитьThey show this on tv in govt. offices in my country where folk stand in line. The ordeal of long lines becomes bearable. Thank you Buster Keaton.
ОтветитьWhat's amazing is just how good Buster is in those talkies, whether they be big budget MGM features or no budget Educational and Columbia short subjects - when he gets the opportunity to demonstrate his comedy chops. Buster's great all the way through his appearances in "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" and the 1965 NFB film "The Railrodder."
ОтветитьMrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !"
Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam ."
Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!"
Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window ? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..."
Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!"
Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky."
Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction."
Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"
Thank you for making this short documentary, showcasing Mr. Keaton’s talent so well. I hope younger generations may come to appreciate his work because of it. He was the best.❤
ОтветитьHe was a great actor and a legend in the silent era
Ответитьterrible
ОтветитьMy favourite later appearances are in Limelight and A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum.
ОтветитьI never noticed until now but in "What No Beer" in several shots his eyes are unequally drooping...surely a manifestation of the acute alcoholism he was suffering from at this point.
ОтветитьIt´s true you can clearly see the difference in the films if you´ve seen most of his movies before and after MGM although I have enjoyed many aspects of his post-silent era. Buster was a firefly among so many snails. No real offense to the snails as I consider myself one next to him...amazingly talented writer, director, performer, actor, stuntman, filmmaker, editor, and all-around creative genius.
ОтветитьI'm sorry, but this was so hard for me to watch because I had never seen any of his talking pictures before. It's just not the same. I had no idea he went through all that.😮 But boy, is he a trooper for putting up with all that. Just imagine if they actually gave him back creative control. ❤
ОтветитьBuster is my comedy idol. That being said, I haven’t been able to get all the way through his two movies with Jimmy Durante. Their personalities clash terribly, and Jimmy never shuts up. Buster seems exhausted and drunk throughout both films.
ОтветитьEverything in The Cameraman was improvised on the fly.
ОтветитьAlka Seltzer added it.
ОтветитьUnited Artists was started by Mary Pickford and Charles Chaplin.
ОтветитьUA teamed with MGM later.
ОтветитьHis voice strained by the 50s
ОтветитьHe also was on Levys Rye Bread. It was all over the public transport billboards.
ОтветитьExcellent video as always. I’ll have to check out these films. Keep up the great work.
ОтветитьThanks for creating these docs! I enjoy a few of Keaton's talking features. If you don't compare these films with his silents some can be enjoyable for what they are. What should also be noted is he was really in the throws of alcoholism during this period too. His timing is often off, possibly due to his sickness and also to the fact that there wouldn't be enough takes to get the physical stuff perfect. I like both of the MGM silent features with The Cameraman being a bit of a masterpiece. I also enjoy Parlor, Bedroom and Bath and The Passionate Plumber.
ОтветитьInteresting/informative/entertaining. Leave it to those incomptetent producers & directors to ruin a film star & their career. A few weeks ago I viewed about (12) Buster silent films. This presentation continues on with his improving acting skills & advice to other comedian actors.🤗
ОтветитьPart two anytime soon?
ОтветитьThat is exactly how I expected it to be
Ответитьbless his heart
ОтветитьI really enjoyed this. Thanks!
