I mean, compressing "any type of file" without degradation is mathematically impossible. What you can compress though, is a typical file. A typical file has less entropy than a completely random file. The entropy is always the maximum compression you can do.

This is stupid. The amount of compressibility depends almost entirely on the contents of the file. You could have a terabyte sized file of repetitive content compress down to almost nothing. A file of random noise won't compress at all. No algorithm can change that, it's just math.

That's what tip-to-tip efficiency gets you

You can't even read 132GB in the time they had with eSATA or USB3 not to mention compressing it with some complex algorithm.
