I wish I had a large Asian market. It’s hard for me to find fresh and hard to get vegetables. Plus they are overpriced if I do find it.
ОтветитьWhy are they suddenly so incredibly expensive ?????
ОтветитьLove 99 Ranch! The wife grows the green kind year round, will need to try the yellow variety.
ОтветитьThanks. ... Cheers....
ОтветитьLearning so much from Mr. Lau!
Thank you!
The green ones I cultivate in my garden. In Japanese thes are called "Nira" (ニラ, 韮). My wife makes yummy scrambled eggs with Nira.
The yellow oes I do not know. Where can I get seeds?
I love both yellow chives and the flowering garlic chives. The flowering chives make a nice informal arrangement in a tall flower bowl or glass with water. They do start to fill the house with a strong garlic aroma after a couple of days, though. :-)
ОтветитьI didn't know about yellow chives. 💝🙏💝 Thank You. I have heard what I thought were garlic chives being called garlic skates?? Is this the same thing or diffrent? Thank You in advance for considering my question. 💝🙏💝 You and your family are amazing for sharing your experience and knowledge with us a special thank you to your dad! It's a great experience to learn more about food and culture from someone so well versed. Thank You again. 💝🙏💝prayers for your family and friends.
ОтветитьPlease make a tour of an Asian supermarket with Dad.. noodles, sauces, veggies etc.. it would be great to get familiar with the ingredients.. this video is great
ОтветитьThat is so helpful, thanks
ОтветитьYour video got cut off in mid sentence bud. "So that's why I am so excited that..." . Video ends abruptly.
ОтветитьI love this video. Very helpful ❤️
ОтветитьThank you for this! I, too, would love a video (or series) discussing the various vegetables, mushrooms, fish, sauces, etc found in Asian markets. I have Asian relatives and it would be so helpful to be able to serve them food they enjoy. 😊
ОтветитьGreat video! I’ve often bought the wrong ones (with buds) for use with dumplings. Thanks for the explanation!
ОтветитьI frickin love these videos I’m learning SO MUCH!!
ОтветитьI’ve been trying to justify buying yellow chives from my local Asian market but never have because of price and also not really knowing what to do with them but now I will try them!! 😍
ОтветитьThank you for sharing this!. My last name is also Lau, my grandfather was from Canton (Guangzhou) and my grandmother was from Hong Kong. I grew up eating all those veggies!.
Ответитьdid video cut out early? Either way didn't know about the different chives, thanks!
ОтветитьGreat Information but here is the funny thing, went in the same market (99 Ranch Market) and asked for garlic chives and was told they don’t sell them. Did some research and discovered they do carry the flowering chive and with your video yellow ones as well. Because the flat green chives have no label will most likely find them as well. Thanks so much!!!
ОтветитьI bought yellow chives few days ago and my entire house / compost smells like chives! Suggest cooking the day of instead of stinking up the house!
ОтветитьGIMME DA LOOP
ОтветитьYour shorts are so damn informative!
ОтветитьMy favorite Cantonese dish is Salted Fish, Chicken, and Chives. I’ve only ever had it with garlic chives and flowering chives, but maybe I should try to make it with yellow… (Though maybe your dad would say they are too delicate for salted fish?)
ОтветитьOMG, yes! There are so many veggies in Hmart and the Chinese market I've never seen before. Can't wait for more. Thank you. Don't work too hard :)
Ответитьbrings me back to the time i visited Marukai Market in Los Angeles
ОтветитьYou should do abunch of videos on the different asian produce they have at the asian market
Ответить长这么大第一次把韭菜和蒜放在一起想
看到这个突然馋韭菜花酱了
yellow chive in texas is around $10 bucks for a pack. yellow chives are the most expensive veggie in all of the market.
ОтветитьWe don’t get as huge a selection here in Northern Ireland. I’m just happy to find any fresh ingredients that I can use in the Asia supermarket! Please please Randy, do a supermarket tour with your Dad. I would love to see the selection in the US @Made With Lau
ОтветитьLove these! I also wondered what the difference in taste and texture between these were. Would love to see a short on pea vines/pea stems and how to cook them. They're our favorite side dish at restaurants, and their quick prep and fast cooking time would make for a great MWL short.
ОтветитьYellow chives is the secret ingredient in a lot of great stuff, goes really well with wonton, rice noodles, scramble eggs, etc.
ОтветитьI just made a dish with 韭菜花
ОтветитьYes, such a great idea!
ОтветитьI didn't get to hear what you were excited about :(
ОтветитьOh no, did the video get cut off?
ОтветитьOh please teach us more! I never know what the equivalent English name to all the choys
Ответитьawesome stuff dude ; i learn something new almost every time i go to my local chinese/vietnamese grocers ; i only wish there was more korean/thai/japanese groceries available nearby
ОтветитьYou are right man. It is important for you to pass the traditions down to your children. I love how you are learning from your dad and it looks like he thoroughly enjoys teaching you man. You inspire me to continue learning about my own culture.
ОтветитьErr was this meant to be longer than 1 minute?
Just cut out at the end.
Regardless, are the yellow chives the same plant but kept away from the light?
I've got quite a lot of Chinese chives growing and wondering if I should cover some to get the yellow chives.
I like the flower ones to cook soup, nice with chicken, duck, even better if you could accept organs(gizzard liver heart etc.下水湯 )
ОтветитьThese are amazing and really help me reconnect with the Cantonese side of my culture
Ответитьi do believe the green flat ones are leek (韭菜)and not garlic chives… the garlic chives can be grown out of garlic cloves and taste very different form leek which often appear in dumplings. One has a more garlic flavor while the other has a more oniony flavor. The yellow one is just a yellow version of leek (not exposed to sunlight when grown)(韭黄). The labels on these packages are misleading as garlic chives and leeks look very similar but belong to different species and taste very different.

ОтветитьHi! Love your videos!!
Please make
BAI TANG GAO (白糖糕) – PAK THONG KOH (STEAMED WHITE SUGAR CAKE)
Because your videos are the easiest to understand and fun to watch and use Cups and ounces in measurements. Thank you!
Oh wow! Those flowering chives are so pretty! Thanks for this Lau family!
ОтветитьI love all of these and eat them all the time!
ОтветитьOur market has these but it’s hard to ask questions. I’d like to see a video featuring all three, including which go in potstickers and which work well as a green onion substitute.
ОтветитьFlower Garlic Chives are fav. Canned/ Freeze in Avacado Oil/Salt w/ other variations, freeze in freezer bags. Great on rice, seafood, in noodles, pancake, dumplings, potatoes, steak, pork chops etc. Your dad has great taste. Lol Enjoyed video.
