My friend actually had one of these and I all ways found it quite odd on how it looked compared to the other DS’s I’ve seen but he told me it was the original and it’s quite nice to see that people enjoy this old piece of tech

I'm genuinely surprised my og silver DS still works. Had it since 2003 battery somehow not dead. Unfortunately one of the prongs for the top part to the bottom part broke. But yeah susprises.

The biggest issue with the OG ds is the hinges. They're very fragile, especially after 2 decades of getting brittle from age. Ds lite is better due to the hinges being in a full plastic shell.

Jokes on you, I pull out a 3ds(technically 2ds XL). I do have a DS lite, but I play DS games on a 3ds because bigger screen.

Physically the best DS Model, but the screens kill it, sadly.

My problem is by the time I got a DS the lite was the big new thing so I never got to play the OG one.

I just shell swapped my uncle's old beat up NDS. Just need a new top screen and we good to go. It's great.

Nobody seems to know that the DS Phat or original DS has front lit screens, which means it can be played in the sun like a GBA could, with improved battery life if you turn the backlight off making this the best roadtrip (if you're sitting in a seat with the sun) and outside DS of the whole line. Plus, the form factor is extremely comfortable, even if it looks kinda ugly...

Iirc the main reason I replaced my OG DS way back when is because I would get stuck in houses in LoZ Phantom Hourglass

The only thing I prefer about the original DS is how GBA cartridges fit nicely in the bottom slot, unlike with the DS Lite where they stick out. That's the only thing it does better.

Honestly given that OG DS is still designed to be playable under a lot of sunlight worse brightness isn't that much of an issue. Also the buttons actually feel quite clicky instead of Lite's mushyness. My hands also got a lot less tired while holding it even tho i have tiny hands. But at the same time the hinges were pretty awful and i ended up with 2 consoles losing the top screen because of that.

Damn those where the times. Recently I got a red old 3ds normal size and I fell in love again. Its real small tough hands hurt a little
