This pakistani gyani wants to put zero tariff on all imports from America. He forgets that pakistan already suffers from fiscal deficit. If everything imported from America is on zero tariff, where will salaries for civil servants,soldiers, health infrastructure etc come from?

Pakistan cannot attract meaningful foreign investment or emerge as a viable industrial hub without addressing its core governance deficits. True investment confidence stems from political legitimacy, institutional stability, and internal peace—none of which currently exist in Pakistan. Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa continue to suffer relentless terrorist attacks, and even Pakistan’s major urban centers struggle to maintain basic law and order, as evidenced by the recent Eid disturbances involving Afghan migrants. In such an environment, even a zero-tariff regime would fail to position Pakistan as a competitive player.

Mr. Gohar’s suggestion ignores the glaring reality of Pakistan’s failure to leverage major strategic initiatives. The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), once marketed as a “game changer,” has been grossly underutilized. Pakistan has managed to convert opportunity into liability, as CPEC projects are mired in inefficiency, lack of coordination, and ballooning debt obligations. Repeated violations of commitments to China have only further eroded investor trust.

Furthermore, the naïve belief that Chinese industries would relocate to Pakistan to dodge American tariffs assumes an industrial readiness Pakistan simply does not possess. With a weak regulatory framework, an unskilled labor force, and chronic political instability, Pakistan is nowhere near ready to capitalize on such strategic shifts.

The triumphalism displayed by Mr. Gohar and his peers mirrors the misplaced optimism of the 1990s when Independent Power Producers (IPPs) were hailed as Pakistan’s energy saviors—yet the common citizen reaped little benefit while the country was saddled with structural inefficiencies and long-term financial burdens.

Unless Pakistan undergoes a serious internal transformation—ensuring representative governance, restoring law and order, and cultivating a genuinely business-friendly environment—such lofty visions remain hollow rhetoric. Pakistan’s strategic potential has been squandered for decades by an establishment more adept at crafting narratives than delivering results. It is high time that those offering these “Aristotelian” theories return to fulfilling the duties they have historically neglected. Without real change, these schemes will remain castles built not just in the air, but in a storm.
