That was a Spock's way to say "Thank you for saving my life".

I loved how this episode showed how Spock was exceptional, but also why it was best for Kirk to be in command.

McCoy is wondering if he could put Spock together again if he rips him limb from limb.

Would the yeoman have had better lines if it had been Grace Lee Whitney's Janice Rand, as originally written, before she was kicked off the series? Same with "A Taste of Armageddon." It's hard to imagine Spock saying to Rand, "Knock her down and sit on her if you have to, Yeoman, this is a killing situation" without her giving back some snark.

Spock kinda "retributed" the favour when he sacrificed himself to save the Enterprise in Star Trek - The Wrath of Khan where he said and I quote

"The needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the few..... or the one"
