Special Announcement! Fun for all ages! Come Celebrate the Hoboken Public Library's 130th Anniversary - Virtual Celebration

Ron Albanese, also known as Polka Dot, will be our emcee for the Hoboken Public Library's 130th Anniversary - Virtual Celebration. It will be a full day of events that you can catch on our Hoboken Public Library Facebook page. The "live stream" will begin with Polka Dot kicking off the event on Saturday Oct 3 @ 11 am. This program will be fun, educational and very entertaining! Come and join in on our birthday celebration!

Celebrate Hoboken Library’s 130th anniversary with the three dynamic women responsible for its creation and extraordinary evolution. When the Hoboken Library’s founder, Mrs. Martha Stevens, sits down with the library’s first female librarian, Mrs. Hatfield, and current Library Director, Lina Podles, via Zoom, there is a whole lot of heartfelt historical reminiscing, as well as what constitutes a Library now (no longer just a building with books) and perspectives on how the Library and its community was affected by and dealt with the Spanish flu of 1918 in comparison to Covid-19. This is one conversation you’re not going to want to miss!

1,000 Books before Kindergarten
Special Reading and Fun Literacy presentation!
1000 Books before Kindergarten is a fun way to help prepare your child for Kindergarten. All children can be signed up who are not yet enrolled in Kindergarten.

“Live” HPL Presents … A Special 130th Anniversary, Large Scale – Outdoor, Mural Projection
Join us outside the library to view a beautifully curated, video and photomontage to be projected on the façade of the Library’s main building at 500 Park Ave. These images are from key moments over the last 130 years, while the Hoboken Public Library has served its local community. From the founding of the actual library building which all began with Mrs. Martha Stevens to the library continuing to serve the community during the Covid-19 Pandemic in 2020.

This event starts at 8 pm and runs to 9 pm. We ask that people social distance as they watch the event and to please wear a mask.

Please note, all of our programs mentioned above will occur rain or shine. The only program with a rain date, if needed, will be our Large-Scale, Outdoor Mural Projection.
