I thought Lumberyard was going to replace Cryengine all together.

I wanted to try Cryengine years ago, but I could never get helpful info on how to start. Not enough people want to use Cryengine (because the EULA forbids anything but video game development), so the forums never had enough people to answer questions or give help, so there was also not enough interest for most people to want to make tutorials. As a result, I was frequently stuck and ultimately had to move to Unreal. I wanted to know how to progress time of day with their gorgeous out-of-the-box skybox, but the only tutorial Crytek had was how to put a clock on the screen, which without a progressing time of day, never changes. @Gamefromscratch if you want to make the tutorial series, I would love to give Cryengine another try. It really looked like it could be an amazing engine that could easily compete with Unreal or Unity (at least in 3D quality).

So we have:
* Unity for C# based 2D/3D Indie games.
* Unreal Engine 4 for C++ based 3D AA type of games
* Godot 3 for hobbiest 2D/3D games (basically free miniUnity)
* GameMaker Studio 2 for simple 2D games.

Why do we need CryEngine V again?
Yes - I still like Crysis 1 - 3 but do we actually need this engine? I'm very sad when I think about it that harsh. But I also trying to be real here...
P.S. Unreal Engine 4 VS CryEngine V.
Round 1!
FIGHT! :-)

Make a full couse of making a simple game that demonstrate the essential features of cryengine, it doesn't have to be a legit fps or 3rd as long as it is a hands on C++,and well explained ... and since there are literately no course like that in the internet, I believe it would be a huge sucess to your career as many people really want to get their hands on cryengine.

The reason crytek is so far behind. Is because of funding. They don't make games any more. There last game was crysis 3. Not alot of games are made with cryengine. Allot of games are made with unity and unreal. Popular games are still being made with the source engine. Like apex legends.

no -- no tutorials for cryengine
screw them
do unreal, unity, phaser, bgfx -- concentrate on things that are used and actually have a chance of success
doing tutorials on cryengine is a waste of time and resources

I would be interested in more CryEngine content especially C# scripting but in case you could do C++ content only or just level editing, even that would be interesting to me. I am very interested to learn more about CryEngine but in the past their license was not that welcoming, after their docs was not very easy to get started with I also did find their pipeline to import assets not so easy to start with in the past but now I just don't have the time to learn a new engine. But I could enjoy some videos so any content you can make is welcome. Just have some fun in CryEngine, make something, anything and share some videos how you did it. Thanks.

CryEngine is the best game engine. Because of CryEngine, Crysis remained the best looking game for the longest time. Because of CryEngine, Ryse: Son of Rom, a 2014 game looks incredible in 2019.

I really like Cry but the problem is they don't support 2D nor Mobile maybe in 2020 they do something! but they are really behind! and another thing was CryEngine doesn't have easy exporting like Uniry or Unreal! until they don't fix these people will stick with more easier and versatile engines!
Another thing Mike, why you don't cover Buildbox? Buildbox 3D looked really cool! I know it's expensive and all but cool engine to cover!

I only wish they would come into modern times and not use flash/ actionscript for gui. I do know that haxe has been sucessful in replacing other flash/actionscipt code elsewhere. It doesn't look like they will be doing anything though.

Promising a lot for future while delivering nothing much in present. Yea man sounds like CryEngine alright . So what , are they guaranteeing that RayTracing would work amazing on current AMD or you mean for future AMD cards, lol. Yea I know... AMD will also launch RayTracing cards.
"ACHIEVED WITH CRYENGINE" - Yep, sounds like CryEngine alright , I mean there are a few games that these CryEngine people acted as if they have complete rights for their existence , like Star Citizen and the CryTek lawsuits as they changed to Lumberyard ... as if they dont have the right to chose different engine. Cuz CryTek owns their soul, or something.... MEH.

i tried it from time to time, but the documentation is just not enought and the community is not that strong. you can do it, you will succes at some point but it will need wayy longer than Unity to learn.
also cryengine is more focused on 3d, its like a bad joke doing a 2d mobile game with cryengine...

Cry Engine. Yeah, it was always a good game engine. If they haven't already, hopefully, they make an advanced, easy to use visual scripting feature, that's more advanced than playmaker and others.😃

The CryEngine will always have a special place for me because in my view, it started what we have today.
Crysis and the CryEngine blew everybody's mind back in the day when it came out with it's ultra realistic graphical fidelity that at the time, the competition didn't come close to.

It was the engine to get and to be.
Sadly, it's been overtaken by better, comparable, usable engines and has lumbered(no pun intended) behind.
I hope it can one day rise again as the premium game engine.

I've recently gone back to experimenting with Cryengine after delving into some of the others. I'm especially excited about there spring 2020 release on the road map if they manage to pull off all those features. For my taste it looks like it has the best options overall with C++ C# LUA and schematyc, for the logic, and of course they've always been known for beautiful graphics. Now if they build a good implementation of Entity component systems.... I also like the interface it's really improved and i can see where they're going with it. Also yes they need a lot of work on documentation but I'm up for a challenge. I hope they can hang in there because I would really like to focus on this engine.

I m so mad that crytek killed cryengine 3 :((
It had way more functions. They completely changed and ruined interface. It had really great interface. I wish they could have just leaved how it was and continued development for new features which cryengine 5 has. I m so disappointed of crytek really. And yet Amazon bought license of cryengine 3 and modified it and called it lumberyard. After that crytek got very mad and still its mad even today.
