Love it !!! Thanks 😊
ОтветитьSeeing that cattail fluff has me wondering if you could use the fire roll technique with it to start a fire. I've only ever seen cotton used for a fire roll. There has to be some other natural material that is capable of working besides cotton.
Ответить❤❤❤ you could add some paraffin to that too and I could also recommend mixing some alcohol into that rubbing alcohol and keeping it in a sealed container rubbing alcohol is one of the best fire starters. It burns clean and it just goes away. It doesn’t leave any residue like petroleum would. If you took some cattail and just dropped a little bit of rubbing alcohol on a big bottle of it, it burns very efficiently. It burns fast but as long as the Tinder is dry, it will catch up and all it takes is a little spray bottles worth
Ответить👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Dam good job on video..
Adding this tool ,to the toolbox..
🇺🇸🇺🇸🪓🔪👍🏻👍🏻
Wrap this in waxed paper, twist both ends. Something to light and it won't make a mess.
Greetings from Kentucky
Nice
ОтветитьQuestion: In your opinion, what is the better flame extender. Vaseline or Candle Wax?
ОтветитьIf you don't like the smell of esbit, use bcb gelblocks. Burning very well and has almost no smell. I use it with the bcb stove, more and more. I keep the esbit for absolute last. Greetings from the Netherlands.
ОтветитьIn World War 2, that fluff was used as padding in aircraft seats. As it is insulative also, it can be used as padding between blankets, sewn quilt style, to make a very insulting, warm blanket, or a sleeping mattress.
ОтветитьCould you use melted Pine sap or resin in place of the Vaseline?
Ответитьlol me and my sister used to call them poop on a stick
ОтветитьMy dad would collect cattails when we went fishing, he kept them and dried them out. Then during 4th of July would light them like punks and we would use them to light fireworks.
ОтветитьInstead of those fuel cubes I have used tea lights before and they work good and don't stink
Ответитьunfortunately in Michigan cattails are protected and can't be harvested.
ОтветитьThanks Dan!! As always, another outstanding episode! Nicely done brother! May you and your family be well!! Looking forward to watching your next adventure! 👍🏽❤️💯
ОтветитьAnother good use for that is to give your buddy a “peanut butter cookie” 😏. It should probably be a slower running buddy. That doesn’t have along his knife - or his 12 gauge.

Seems like a lot of trouble to start a fire if you already have a stove you can light as a flame source.
ОтветитьGood job on the video
ОтветитьEat some tree bark ya wack
ОтветитьGood one 👍....
ОтветитьSimple and effective! As always nicely done Dan
ОтветитьI'm in my 40 and one of my favorite things to do is backpacking. When getting a new 65 lt bag i measure at 12 3/4. They don't make that size in adult, I'm still stuck in the kids section
ОтветитьI suggest tallow rather than Vaseline - so it is all natural
ОтветитьGrab some sunscreen next time you go out! Skin cancer isn't a joke! Good video.
Ответитьin scouts we just mixed vaseline with cattails like you would with cottonballs, and stuck them in a ziploc bag. no melting required. just pull apart and use a ferro rod.
ОтветитьGood evening from Syracuse NY brother
ОтветитьAdd your bird nest to this fluff
ОтветитьHome made firestarter
ОтветитьCattails are also fantastic survival food: the roots, the shoots, even the "hot dog" when they're still green and firm.
ОтветитьWow corn dogs in the wild
ОтветитьBunches of red pine needles. We call em Freddy clusters.
ОтветитьWould this work well with either wax or pine resin?
Ответитьdoes this burn longer than cotton balls
?
Awesome tip Dan. Thanks for sharing it.
ОтветитьI always keep Esbit cubes and a pocket stove in my pack. I fill the stove with new cubes, close it up and wrap it in a Ziploc bag. Finish it off with an elastic band to keep it as a tight package.sure beats bulky fuel tanks. Mylar is even better for additional cubes. 14g for boiling 16oz of water and the 27g cubes for more work.
ОтветитьAwesome, as always. I hope it would be the same with a mix of olive oil and bees wax, in order to be more natural. Maybe with a bit of pine sap too into the mix.
ОтветитьAlternatively you can use pine resin in leau of petroleum jelly. Or just wax and oil if you want
ОтветитьDoes that plant work better dry or fresh? I’ve found some fibrous species work differently depending on moisture.
ОтветитьDon't have an abundance of Cat tails near me.. but I do have a large bag of drier lint. I plan on using that with jelly and parifin wax
ОтветитьYou can weave baskets out of cattail leaves. My mother made many when I was a child.
ОтветитьThanks Dan. Take care😊
ОтветитьIll just go over to the Vaseline tree and pick some fresh Vaseline to make my fire starter. 😆
If you're gonna be bringing props from home anyway, just bring a flame thrower or a propane barbaque grill. 😆
Many thanks for another useful tutorial, Cheers.😄😄
ОтветитьGreat tip!!!! Thanks Dan : )
Ответитьsince leaving La many years ago I haven't given much thought about cattails but I do remember as a kid we had cattail sword fights oh boy what a treat everywhere that stuff went and I do mean everywhere had no video games here.
ОтветитьGood video
ОтветитьCat tail roots are fab eating too and a great source of carbs 😎👍🏻
ОтветитьWax or cooking fat or even oil from the engine vaseline mixed with wax
ОтветитьVery small mylar bag
ОтветитьWill that work the same with Wax? I generally use cotton make up removers (Cotton wool balls work too) & wax which makes less mess than Petroliam Jelly.
