I see the usefulness of that cutter you used. However. Treating it like drywall and scoring it then bending it then cutting the back with a knife isn't that hazardous. We're iced in and in a state that doesn't handle ice well.. so I couldn't run to a hardware store for a cutter. I did however give up on rip cuts and busted it my table saw
ОтветитьRemove base you kook! Rookie
ОтветитьDoes anyone know how to get , idk how to say this , a stagger on the flooring that is random. I kind of started a pattern by laying my starting board full plank , then a half plank on the next row to start it , then the third row I did a random cut off. My wife said this isn't right because they still line up in spots. It needs to be staggered more or different...... please help... dear God help.
ОтветитьThanks! I recently got some quietwalk LV for my cork backed lvp1.4 mm, Definitely quiet compared to just 6mil plastic on my concrete subfloor. Just hooe theres no too much cousion for locking system.
ОтветитьSo, what do you do when your ‘click’ flooring doesn’t click? The affordance is so minuscule (like 1/16) that if you don’t get every piece EXACTLY right, the next one doest click. What garbage! Definitely not a DIY project.
Ответить3/4 1/2 2/3 great math maybe go metric.
Ответить81 yrs old single female here knowing nothing about vinyl plank installation and ‘just’ had 1000sf done .. now tears are flowing. Appears to be spreading already .. base boards and trim wrong sizes and crooked cuts. Came across your video trying to understand what the worker did not do that he should have and am wondering if you are ever available to take a 10 minute look and tell me what to expect with this floor down the road bcz I don’t see the entire floor being redone. I’m off Drake between Lemay & Timberline- Lake Sherwood. ~ Thanks so much for making this video!
ОтветитьIs an underlay required before laying the flooring?
ОтветитьI own an older home in which 1/2" oak flooring is intalled directly on 1x6 subfloor. In the kitchen they added plywood and hardybacker directly on top of 1x6 subfloor (no hardwood installed) to add tile. What we want to do is strip off tile/plywood/hardybacker and get down to 1x6 subfloor. We would like to then install vinyl snap together flooring. Due to height concerns we want to keep the floor height as low as possible to match rest of flooring in the house. I think maybe we have 2 options?
1) Remove 1x6 subfloor and replace with 3/4" plywood. Not sure how we would do this as I think 1x6' s run under drywall.
2) Install plywood on top of existing subfloor-wouldn't be an issue other than height. What is the thinnest plywood we could use in this situation?
Feel bad for the people that are learning from you
ОтветитьI just wanted to say ty i was seriously throwing stuff n cussing ot was so frustrating kept breaking boards nothing was lining up watched your video and its now working you are correct going by there instructions is definitely not working going by yours 💯 is working ty so much
ОтветитьWhen you finish, you take the scrawls out? For expansion and contractions
ОтветитьThe substrate floor needs to be LEVEL and not bumpy, but can it have a MID-belly bulging/negative camber? This is a second story ONe Inch tongue and groove that has a dome quality to it to support the weight and lack of columns underneath as per architect design. So it kinda looks like a curvature in the middle of an Earth’s horizon all across the midsection. Will the tongue and groove cork click ok? I would guess less than a milimiter 1/32of gap every 3 meters 8 feet wouldn’t prevent it from closing in ok, would it?
Ответитьi love your tapping block. i hadn’t heard about the rib spreader so thanks for mentioning that exists. when you cut with a utility knife, flip the board over and lift. works like a charm on the flooring i got even for pretty short pieces (4 in).
ОтветитьI normally attach a piece of 1 x 2 to my working piece to make tapping in easier.
ОтветитьEhh theres better videos out there about how to properly install this type of flooring. DIYers keep that in mind
ОтветитьOn concrete basement floors do you suggest putting floors with underlayment straight on concrete or installing a moisture barrier first?
ОтветитьGreat video. I love the idea of screwing in your initial strip, to keep thing’s steady.
However, I have an old Victorian with wavy walls and thick, intricate door trim.
So rather than cutting an 1/8” off the bottom of that trim, I do end up using a utility knife.
no knee pads?
ОтветитьQuarter round looks terrible I would have changed the baseboards as part of the renovation.

ОтветитьThis is the best video I've seen on installing vinyl plank flooring and excellent presentation style!
ОтветитьWhy is your walls painted so shitty
ОтветитьThank you dad
ОтветитьDo u need spaces on side walls ?
ОтветитьHow do you deal with the gaps under door casement and jambs after installing LVP?
Caulk isn’t ideal. I’ve tried installing “slices” of casement and jamb. There’s got to be a better way. What do you do?
I loved ❤❤ i have cuestion 😮 Do I have to leave space on all 4 walls or only 2 ...for expansion???
Please somebody 😊
I enjoyed the music with this video. It was difference and a bit whimsical? Idk, it made me want to watch this in the morning with a cup of coffee. Cheers! :)☕
ОтветитьA lot to consider putting planks on my concrete in my family room. I learned much from an expert.
Ответитьgsdt rid of that stupid music
ОтветитьLVP is garbage. It leaches chemicals into the air that you end up inhaling. Tile is the way to go. They advertise low VOC’s but don’t believe it.
ОтветитьYou also don’t need a laser to check if your wall is straight. Measure equally from each and and pop a chalk line.
ОтветитьWhy spend 5 to 6 dollars a sq ft on vinyl when you can get hardwood flooring in that price range 🤔
ОтветитьCan't wait to try your method. Thank you.
ОтветитьYou have to use MC foam 1mm for a easy installation 😊

ОтветитьHi Jeff, Love yor videos, i'm looking to replace my carpet in my basement with vinyl plank and was thinking to use Floor Comfort 5 mm Premium HFPS/Film Floor Underlayment underneath teh planks and over the concrete. Do you see an issue with this?
ОтветитьGot some questions. Why did he measure 3inches in the beginning if he was gonna lay the pieces down anyway. Why did he cut the piece at the beginning of the second row. Also do you lay the flooring down brick style?
ОтветитьOh my Lord this guy's going to talk us to death just put the floor together show us what you going to show us omg
ОтветитьThank you
ОтветитьI just posted a video showing a problem with water proof flooring. I recommend checking it out if you have waterproof flooring like LVP of VCC
@BiggMo
Wondering what luxury vinyl plank is and is it the cork on the bottom that makes it luxury?
ОтветитьI've been doing it for over 15 years, I don't know why you know so much about what the laser will do
ОтветитьIt's a good idea to note the condition of the sub-floor while installing the vinyl planks. It you have an older building with dips in the sub-floor you might want to consider gluing down some of the floor so it doesn't separate over time.
ОтветитьIt's good idea to start from the center in case the sides ends can be too thin to work with, if the room width matches exactly then it's ok to start on one side
ОтветитьJeff is so cool, hes the real Tim Allen of Home Improvement Shows. Cooler than the other side of the pillow Jeff!

ОтветитьI appreciate the detailed breakdown of the vinyl plank installation process! Your tips on using a laser level instead of wedges are particularly helpful. It's so much easier to keep everything aligned that way.
I also agree with the importance of preparation—cleaning and checking for squeaks can save a lot of headaches later. Have you ever encountered issues with temperature fluctuations affecting the vinyl?
For anyone considering this project, I recommend accounting for additional costs like underlayment and tools if you don't already have them. It might be worth renting specialized cutters to make the job smoother.
Lastly, how do you usually handle transitions between different flooring types? Looking forward to your thoughts!
Halfway through my install.....angry, frustrated and about to give up because I was foolish enough to actually try to install floors the correct way according to the manufacture's instruction....saw this video.....he is doing everything the opposite way of the instructions, and by golly it works like a charm.
