Everything about this is so British.

I remember it happening. Felt so frustrated and upset for the lady.

There were funding issues around the organisation of these games, I vaguely remember. Also, did the late Robert Maxwell step in and contribute to the costs of staging the games? Thirty years ago now all of that.

Lucky none of the embers landed on that jacket or SHE would have been the torch!

Lucky that wasn't me holding that torch - Would have just said fuck it and pissed off to the pub.

I made the ramp Helen tripped on. It was to allow wires & cables to pass under the red carpet which she ran along & wasn't expecting it as it hadn't been there in the rehearsal. Sorry, but maybe a lesson learned. Always look where you're going, especially when carrying fire. :-)

Come on ... this has to be one of the all time classic goofs. Love it. !!!!
