While it does mean 'famous or well known' it generally means in a negative sense - Los Angeles is notorious for its smog - Jack the Ripper is one of the most notorious historical figures of London. Also my understanding is the sections near Beijing have been heavily repaired and rebuilt.

you guys only went through the centre path in Gugong Museum, It's called Museum, because the side path with lead you to the colletion rooms, in which part of Emperior, Queen...'s belongs are demostrated there, and those represents the highest technology back then in China.

the forbidden city is not thousands of years old....it's only of hundreds of years old. amazing regardless.

This part of the Great Wall is beautiful but does not have the genuine historical significance of some other parts of this great defensive military structure.
You can visit this part of the Great Wall: 山西代縣雁門關
I think translated to English as "Yan Men Guan"
If there is a structural monument to represent the struggles of the Chinese people and culture, it is this part of the Great Wall, "雁門關" Yan Men Guan."
Please note that I am not sure of the English title translation.

I did Badaling 2001 with my Kids, the younger one was still a toddler, we carried the buggy with baby all the way up!!!! my god, it was so steep but worth every step!

The famous story of "playing with princes by lighting beacons" in the capital Haojing (now Xi'an, Shaanxi) originated from this. Before the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period (770-221 BC), the countries competed for hegemony and defended each other. The construction of the Great Wall entered its first climax, but the length of the construction at this time was relatively short. After the Qin Dynasty conquered the six kingdoms and unified the world (207 BC), Qin Shihuang connected and repaired the Great Wall of the Warring States Period, and it was called the Great Wall. The Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) was the last dynasty to overhaul the Great Wall. Most of the Great Wall that people see was built at this time.

The Greatwall has been renovated to suits tourist and elderly. My 1st visit during 1999 the staicase is very high/steep and my 2nd visit was in 2017 whereby they have change it to tourist and elderly friendly staircase. The non-renovated strech is the ancient original brick which have the ancient achitecture feeling to it. ❤
