The idea of them scrapping the Y-Wing makes me wish the First Order won.
ОтветитьI love this, its great. I see it more of a long range patrol or sensors ship
ОтветитьI would use the Mosquito or the P-38 Lightning as inspiration for the new Y-Wing....
ОтветитьSaw this version of the y wing & thought to myself "Oh yeah I would love to have this as a 1/144;1/72,1/48 & a larger 1/12 or 1/18 & would gladly pay full price for the stl files that were used to make it. Like the mk2 b wing I saw last night, I also fell in love with that version alot better than the y,a & b wing versions that were used in rise of skywalker as I thought the resistance fighters except the t70 x wing had gone backwards whilst 1st order craft went into the future.
ОтветитьI really wanna 3d print this in 1/12 scale. I've already got a Rebel Y-wing on the printer and buying the files for the Clonewars version next week.
ОтветитьStill my favourite version..
Ответитьthe lore reason of Y-Wings being obsolete compared to multirole fighters make sense until we look at that fucking dreadnought battle and the fact that they used some big and slow bombers
ОтветитьSo there were long range scout versions of the Y-wing in legends. I feel that that the resistance may have indeed had Y-wings in their inventory just not enough to do any good or they were doing exactly what you proposed.
ОтветитьFYI: there’s an old Star Wars comic where Leia, Luke, R2 and C-3PO go on an adventure on a water world. They fly a Y-wing. What’s unique about it is that it’s cockpit seated 4. I always felt that this made more sense. Why have 2 model fighters? It wasn’t big enough to carry more than 1 bomb and X-wings also carried a torpedo, it was manufactured by the same company and wasn’t a competitive ship, so what was the point? In my head canon it is actually a larger ship, by maybe 50%. I’m thinking it’s more like a B-25 bomber from WW2. I was thinking it held a crew of 5-6; pilot, copilot, top and bottom gunners, communications and a bomber. It could hold a bomb or torpedo payload which, empty could allow for additional passengers. That makes it a multimission ship, as it could carry a small incursion team. So this upsize for the Y-Wing makes perfect sense to me, especially in light of the side-by-side cockpit from the comic. I’d love to print this for a game of X-Wing.

ОтветитьI really like this design. Being of a longtime fan the original Star Wars vision and a voracious student of 20th century history, I greatly appreciate this look. It makes sense that the Resistance would have turned to reviving older designs as an alternative means of building a combat force rather than relying solely on the New Republic for all its ships and that said designs would be massively reworked to fit the new types of combat they would be engaging in.
This redesign of the old Y-wing makes perfect sense in both the timeline and the logistical needs of the Resistance. That it's nearly double the size of the original makes it not only more intimidating at a glance but also affords the space needed for what's essentially an optimal crew of four working the craft in pairs on eight hour shifts in a continuous operation. In addition to the regular combat roles this ship would be expected to fill, I would imagine this also being fitted with stealth systems and used as an infiltration and observation craft.
I really like the ordnance additions you've made to this. The belly gun is reminiscent of both the B-17 Flying Fortress in its placement and the B-29 Superfortress in that it's not manually controlled. I would imagine that the portion of the large central area not occupied by systems critical to the operation of the craft is an enlarged bomb bay with a capacity of maybe 50% more than the original Y-wing, and the proton torpedo magazine in the chin area has either been removed to make space for the cabin or is of reduce capacity. But the real question would be whether the shields are stronger because of a more powerful generator, weaker because of the greater area they have to cover or about the same because of both factors.
But I think the most revolutionary feature, especially for a craft of this type, is that the entire cabin module can act as a lifeboat in the event of a critical system failure or catastrophic battle damage that destroys the ship. One could argue that the airlocks which flank the cabin might be a structural weakness that an enemy could exploit by either destroying with concentrated fire or using to board and capture the craft and crew, which could be disastrous if said craft is either transporting a high-value individual or information critical to winning a war.
In all, you've done the universe a service by bringing the Y-wing out of mothballs, so to speak, and giving it a new lease on life and a proper place in the arsenal of the Resistance.
If only Lucas film cared about real fans with passion like you. Instead we get their agenda over well thought out fiction.
ОтветитьReconnaissance strategic bomber is a good role
ОтветитьBut where do they erm.... defecate?
ОтветитьY-wings are my favorite ship in Star Wars, so I really like this design
ОтветитьHaving a ship that can recover pilots that ejected is long overdue.
Ответитьhm
ОтветитьDude's coming up with more interesting lore in five minutes than Lucasfilm could in THREE movies!
ОтветитьI'd love to see your ship designs in Star Wars. They are so cool!
ОтветитьHenry really made a better Y-Wing then the "variant" rise of skywalker introduced.
ОтветитьIt's not an Resistance Y-wing, it's New Republic Y-Wing. Resistance is more likely to use what we saw in the films, which means old and decomissioned models, such as Rebel Y-Wings.
Other than that, it's great design that absolutely should be in Star Wars, no matter if it is newer projects, or a theoretically possible Sequels Remake (retain design, feel, Characters and some story beats, but change the writing and story to make sense, preferably under either Filony or JJ Abrams COMPLETLY! )!
You should redesign the BTA-NR2 Y-wings
ОтветитьI know that this is an extremely late comment, but this video has putted up on my feed recently and I really like the design and the reasoning behind the changes from the classic Y-wing to this. After watching the video a few times, I think there is a slight design flaw when it comes to the placement of the engines and side hatches. From what it looks like, the engines will actually block access to those side hatches.
A couple possible slight redesigns would be to, as you hinted at in the video, move the belly gun to the back and to then the access hatch would be on the bottom of the ship.
The second redesign would be to move both turrets further back, have the cabin run the length of the ship, and have the access hatch be at the back of the ship. This would also give some extra room for a medical bed for the search and rescue missions.
In either case, the side hatches could then be changed to hardpoints for sensors, communications, or possibly more forward fire weapons.
Make it faster and this could be a protagonist’s ship all day
ОтветитьCool, you used one of the base ships i did for my own home brew LLRF. If i ever actually doodle it out ill have to do a video like this
ОтветитьWow! Can you teach me how to design custom Star Wars ships like that?
ОтветитьGör detta spelet igen ❤😂
Ответить5 years later and where's the refresher? (Star wars toilet and i think shower combination)
ОтветитьHe put more effort and thought into this than Disney does on star wars
ОтветитьYeah…where’s the refresher???
Ответитьmy guys this ship as a bounty hunter...
ОтветитьI love your gorgeous version of the Y wing 🪽
Ответитьthis man is so fucking underrated
ОтветитьWould make a great hero ship with its larger size would grant a lot more customization and aftermarket upgrade options. Its size looks comparable to small cargo haulers which would make it a relatively affordable craft for private owners and small companies needing fast efficient durable well armed and heavily shielded craft that would dissuade pirates flying single or pose a major threat to frigate and cruiser class vessels when traveling in small convoys.
ОтветитьSense the y wing will be obsolete in the future for the resistance, then I would give it to the Mandalorians so they can use it to carry cargo and long range rescue and long range reconnaissance as well. It would be a good idea.
ОтветитьNow we do have a Resistance Y-wing, which is just a Rebellion-era model but smashed down the neck with a sledgehammer.
ОтветитьAs per usual your work is as awesome as it is impeccably in line with what we see in canon. This ship is a very worthy successor to the Y-wing. My first thought was to make it a long range patrol and reconnaissance vessel as you did, it makes a lot of sense that the New Republic (and subsequently the Resistance) would take on a different mindset when it comes to the fleet. It makes way more sense for multi-role fighters (like the X-wing) to be out policing patrolling the frontier, but used more to back up a fleet of longer-range and more independent and larger patrol ships. Excellent work.
ОтветитьPerfect blend of the two. I much prefer the OT Y-Wings personally, but this is awesome!
ОтветитьThis has been my favourite ship fro Star Wars fleet , I didn’t know it could be improved but you’ve done a fantastic job, keep up the good work 👏🙌🔥🔥
ОтветитьCan you remake with toilet
ОтветитьI love the Y-wing, your design is nothing short of AWESOME!!!!!. Be kinda cool if someone were to 3D print that into a kit, because I would love to buy one
ОтветитьWHERE ARE THE TOILETS, HENRY?
ОтветитьI quite like the Y-wing 😊👍 it may be old but it has that “I ain’t Dead yet” spirit, so this new take on the Y-wing you’ve created Henry is awesome addition to the history lore of the ship that won’t die
ОтветитьThis definitely sounds like a logical evolution of the Y-Wing. You should show this to Disney and Lucasfilm.
ОтветитьThe Y-wing is very similar to the Naboo Heavy Destroyers from SWGalactic Battlegrounds
ОтветитьThis guy is making Star Wars 2.0 and I'm loving it. I only discovered the channel now, and I was a SW fan for a big time of my youth, but felt disconnected and to see all this things, makes me wanna see more. Thanks!
ОтветитьI like this Y-Wing more than the clone wars era and rebellion era models. It looks great 👍
ОтветитьIn hindsight, this is better than official new y wing. I only noticed it is new after i was told that.
ОтветитьThis is my favorite ship you have made, especially the use concept. Being a rescue guy in real life I can totally see myself in this ship
Ответить
